Generously funded by Tom and Susan Handley, the Women in Leadership Development (WLD) Program is a year-long leadership development opportunity for CMC women that fosters confidence, builds awareness, and develops leadership. The efforts to create, design, and launch this program were the work of our fearless leader, Dr. Sherylle Tan, KLI’s Director of Internships & KLI Research, along with our Assistant Director, Marilyn Pierce, and a phenomenal Student Advisory Team consisting of Jennifer Bernardez ‘22, Hailey Kang ‘24, Alicia Reynaga ‘22, Joy Zhu ‘24, Aileen Zheng ‘23 (abroad), and Yesenia Rodriguez ‘23 (abroad). GO WLD TEAM! 🌸

As part of CMC’s 75th Anniversary and the countdown, today we celebrate the founding of the Kravis Leadership Institute.
Thanks to the generosity and commitment of Henry R. Kravis ’67, the Kravis Leadership Institute opened its doors in 1994 with a mission of developing responsible leaders. As the founding member and eponymous donor, Mr. Kravis believes that responsible leadership drives positive change in the world. Mr. Kravis’ vision positioned CMC to become a national example of leadership development in action.
Originally established on the first floor of Seaman Hall, KLI is now housed in the Kravis Center, and continues to fulfill its mission and initiatives. Since its beginning in 1994, KLI has fostered leadership within the CMC community by conducting leadership research, providing workshops, leadership dialogues, and conferences, in addition to housing the Leadership Studies Sequence. KLI’s inaugural Director was Dr. Martin M. Chemers, followed by Dr. Susan Murphy, Professor Ronald Riggio, Ph.D., Dr. Sarah Smith Orr, Professor Jay Conger, DBA, and is currently under the leadership of Professor David Day, Ph.D. More than 25 years later, KLI is on the forefront of cutting-edge leadership development and research.

KLI faculty have been busy writing over the past year! Professor Ron Riggio recently published TWO new books.
Inclusive Leadership: Transforming Diverse Lives, Workspaces, and Societies is coauthored by Bernardo Ferdman, PhD, Jeanine Prime, PhD and Prof. Riggio and provides leaders with guidance and hands-on strategies for fostering inclusion and explains why it matters.
Prof. Riggio’s self-published book, Daily Leadership Development: 365 Steps to Becoming a Better Leader, is a guidebook that offers day-by-day instruction in bite-sized chunks and is grounded in research and best practices.
Congratulations, Professor Riggio!

It’s Inauguration Day and we will be witnessing history as the first ever female Vice President of the United States of America is sworn in! This is a monumental bipartisan win for women in leadership AND multicultural leadership as Madam Vice President Kamala Harris becomes the first woman, first Black person, AND first South Asian person to hold the position of Vice President of the United States - the highest position in office ever held by a woman in the U.S!
Fun fact: VP Kamala Harris will be sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the Supreme Court’s FIRST Latina justice.
