Dear AARC community,

In the radical Filipinx tradition, the phrase “Isang Bagsak” roughly translates to “we rise together”. In the AARC, we build on that to honor the past, present and future with our “Tatlong Bagsak” protocol.

It’s with mixed emotions I have accepted a new role as an Ethnic Studies Professor at nearby Chaffey Community College this Fall. I will be stepping down from the AARC this summer. These Past six years at the AARC have been one of the most transformative experiences of my professional career. I’ve truly cherished the spaces that we have fostered together and our many conversations—joyful and challenging—on what liberation can actually look like in education. I wanted to let you know that I am proud of the people you have become Today. I’ve learned so much from you and I hope you were able to learn and grow from me too.

What I am most excited about is that the world will be in a much better place in the Future knowing that you will make an impact in whatever fields you choose to enter. Don’t ever forget the lessons that you’ve learned in this space and carry them forward wherever you go.

Tatlong Bagsak!

You rock Dahlia! We’ll be cherishing these last few weeks with her at the AARC 🫶🏻😤🥂

Alternabreak Recap!! 🙌🏻🥳 with things quickly picking up speed post-spring break, we wanted to highlight this year’s Alternabreak, a Pomona-Pitzer spring break trip that encourages students to examine issues impacting the APIDA immigrant and working class communities while connecting students to AARC and CAPAS community partners.

Over the course of three days, Pomona and Pitzer students traveled to Cal State Long Beach to visit the on-campus Dream Center and APIDA Center, went on a “toxic tour”, visited South Asian Network, visited the Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum (PIEAM), and enjoyed moments of reflection, journaling, delicious food along the way (Sophy’s, Seafood City)! Check out what these folks were up to and keep your eyes open for opportunities to participate in future Alternabreaks! 👀😎🎉
