“This summer, I’m a Children and Youth Intern for World Relief Chicagoland, a refugee resettlement agency. Throughout the month of June, I’ve contributed to administrative tasks such as assisting parents in enrolling their children in schools and summer opportunities. In July, my department hosts a Summer Club for K-12 students, and I’ve been having the best time bonding with the children! I’m grateful to learn about different experiences and cultures through home visits and intentional conversations with staff. I’m also learning about how the resettlement funding freeze under the current administration is affecting grants and how World Relief is adapting to this situation.“ - Isabela Cabrera

“I have had the opportunity to work with Connecticut Against Gun Violence (CAGV), a nonprofit that works with Connecticut officials to pass effective and lasting change through legislative advocacy surrounding gun control, as a 2025 Summer Projects Intern. I have worked on a number of projects in collaboration with other CAGV staff, including a review of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in CT as well as document the occurrence of
unintentional shootings by children (in CT specifically) while compiling a list of gun safety resources for children. This position granted me the privilege to be involved in conversations that I would never have otherwise had the chance to partake in, the most impactful being the meeting with David Hogg that I was able to attend, someone who I had previously only heard from through newsletters that I have subscribed to and social media sites.” - Blake Suttner ‘26
