Two years ago today, Dr. Mohamed Abousalem began his tenure as the third president of Keck Graduate Institute. Since then, his leadership has helped advance KGI's mission while strengthening the institution's impact in biotechnology, healthcare, and graduate education.
Under President Abousalem's leadership, KGI has expanded its reach near and far. KGI has added several community colleges as partners through the CC to PharmD pathway for students to begin their pharmacy career journey sooner while saving money. The Institute's global reach has grown through the launch of its first international pathway program and the signing of three institutional agreements with Liwa University in the United Arab Emirates. He has also strengthened relationships with partners across the United States, reinforcing KGI's reputation as an innovative, collaborative institution committed to shaping the future of the life sciences.
His presidency has also been marked by significant academic growth. This past year, KGI introduced four new degree programs: the Doctor of Medical Science, Doctor of Health Science, Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Master of Science in Population Health Sciences. KGI also established a Professorship in Artificial Intelligence and a Professorship in Digital Health. These additions reflect KGI's commitment to preparing future leaders for the rapidly evolving biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and healthcare industries.
President Abousalem has also elevated KGI's visibility by sharing the institute's story through podcast appearances and speaking engagements, highlighting KGI's unique, hands-on approach to graduate education. Earlier this year, his leadership was recognized when he was named one of the Los Angeles Times Studios' 2026 Life Sciences Visionaries.
Since arriving in July 2024, President Abousalem has led the launch of Strategic Plan 2035, expanded global partnerships, strengthened industry and clinical collaborations, and continued to position KGI as a leader in graduate education and the life sciences. As KGI celebrates this two-year milestone, we look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to transform education, innovation, and healthcare with President Abousalem leading the way for years to come.
