Happy Youth Day! - Topic : Dangers of Po*******hy
Today the SRC hosted a workshop on the topic of the Dangers of Po*******hy. Po*******hy addiction is an increasing problem amongst our youth. It is seen as a taboo topic that not enough people are prepared to talk about. Although po*******hy is a pleasurable experience and releases many different 'happy' hormones, there are too many long-lasting effects for it to be good for you.
Studies have proven that the use of p**n is primarily used by males. Research has shown that 50% of men who are casually dating report watching p**n, in comparison to 1.2% of females. Therefore, the use of p**n has also lead to many problems such as Erectile Dysfunction as the male will need a lot more to be aroused as they have become desensitized to explicit and unrealistic content.
Watching p**n causes hyper-stimulation in your brain, which causes you to secrete an unnaturally high level of dopamine. Overtime of regular p**n watching, one becomes desensitized to the content. This causes one to crave more and more, and the need for watching more explicit content is higher to satisfy your craving. The desensitization of your reward system in your brain causes serious mental health problems such as anxiety and depression because you need a lot more pleasure or stimulation to release dopamine.
P**n addiction also has been connected to the erosion of the prefrontal cortex. This part of the brain controls your attention span, impulse control and managing different emotional reactions, etc. Therefore, the use of p**n damages this part of the brain causing your attention levels to decrease, you may become more impulsive in decision making, and it becomes harder for you to control your emotional reactions in different situations.
You may be worried that you are addicted to p**n, so here are a few symptoms to help you confirm if you do have an addition:
• You cannot stop watching, despite feeling guilty.
• You crave it a lot more.
• You waste most of your day due to p**n viewing.
• You've lost interest in s*x.
• You're more demanding when it comes to your s*x life with your partner.
• You lose attraction for your partner.
• You are in physical pain.
• Spending money on p**n.
• Your attention span is a lot smaller.
• You feel angry often.
Some tips to help overcome your addiction:
• Admitting you have a problem.
• Downloading a website blocker that will block websites such as p**nhub.
• Turn to a higher power, focus on your religion and allow the scripture to help and guide you.
• Forgive yourself and realize that recovery is a long journey.
Seek professional help.
