And the winner at our Saginaw on Stage concert for the most performances and the most diversity…

Stephanie Terpening is one busy lady from 6-11:30pm on Friday, April 29, at The Saginaw Club.

She’s playing in a German polka band and a horn-driven blues/rock band, paying tribute to the late country/folk artist John Prine, and performing lumberjack songs solo.

All told, the Clare resident is a singer and plays piano, guitar, percussion and lap dulcimer.

At Saginaw on Stage, she will be singing and playing guitar during her Singer/Songwriter stage performance featuring her collection of historic Michigan lumberjack songs.

They were transcribed from the 1938 recording “Songs of the Michigan Lumberjacks” and came from actual lumber camps in the state. They were collected by Alan Lomax, a well known American folk music collector, and E.C. Beck, a former professor of history at Central Michigan University.

Terpening is making her debut with the 16-member Fröliche Musiker Blasorchester polka band, singing mostly and playing drum set on one selection.

For the 10-member 23 North, it is keyboard and vocals.

And on the Tribute To The Artist stage she singing and playing guitar in paying homage to Prine. That stage features eight soloists singing 16 songs by performers who have died in the last three years.

Terpening has a private music teaching practice in Clare, teaching voice, piano, percussion, guitar, ukulele, lap dulcimer, music theory and composition.

I’ll be teaching folk music classes this memorial day weekend at Wheatland Music Organization’s Traditional Arts Weekend! I’ll be teaching ukulele classes up on kids hill, a special session on MI lumberjack songs, and a special session on MI lake shanty songs. Students of all ages are welcome!
