🎉📚 WELCOME BACK, STEEL CENTER! 📚🎉

The 2026–2027 school year is officially underway, and we are SO excited to welcome our students back to Steel Center for Career and Technical Education!

This year is especially exciting as our students return to a newly renovated building designed to provide even more opportunities for hands-on learning, career exploration, and preparation for their futures.

There is nothing better than seeing our classrooms, labs, shops, and hallways filled with students again! We can't wait to see the skills they develop, the experiences they gain, and everything they accomplish throughout the year.

Here’s to an incredible 2026–2027 school year at Steel Center!

Yesterday marked an extraordinary milestone in the history of Steel Center for Career & Technical Education.

Our Grand Reopening and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony celebrated the completion of a nearly $36 million transformation made possible through the shared vision and commitment of our 11 member school districts. It was a wonderful day filled with pride, gratitude, partnership, and excitement for the future.

We extend our deepest appreciation to Lieutenant Governor Austin A. Davis for returning to Steel Center, sharing this special moment with us, and continuing to demonstrate his sincere support for our students and career and technical education.

We also thank the distinguished individuals who helped make our program so meaningful: Judd Pittman of the Pennsylvania Department of Education; Senator Nick Pisciottano; Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato; Dr. Randall Lutz, our Superintendent of Record; and David Schaap, president of our Joint Operating Committee.

Special thanks to Assistant Principal Kaitlyn Youngstead for serving as our master of ceremonies with tremendous professionalism and to Scott Blasey for sharing his remarkable talent through his performance of the National Anthem.

Most importantly, we thank everyone who helped bring this vision to life—our board members, superintendents, staff, students, alumni, elected officials, community and business partners, architects, contractors, and friends of Steel Center. This accomplishment belongs to all of you.

We have many photographs, stories, acknowledgments, and highlights to share in the coming days and weeks. We look forward to recognizing more of the people who supported us throughout this journey and celebrating everything our communities have accomplished together.

For now, our attention turns to Monday, when our students will walk through the doors and begin learning in the modernized school they deserve. After all, they are the reason we did this.

Thank you for believing in Steel Center. The Grand Reopening celebrated what we built together—and now the next chapter begins.

Just a couple of reminders: NEW student orientation is tomorrow evening. We are very excited to connect with our incoming students and their families. First day of classes Steel Center is on Monday, August 31. Please see the attached flyer for more details on both of these important days. Looking for something fun to do in Pittsburgh this weekend? Consider a visit to Pittsburgh's Little Italy Days in the heart of Bloomfield! It's a great opportunity to enjoy one of Pittsburgh's favorite traditions while also supporting some of our own Steel Center graduates.

While you're enjoying the food, music, and festivities along Liberty Avenue, be sure to stop by Connor's Cookies, owned and operated by Tamar Connor, a 2026 Steel Center graduate of our Baking & Pastry Arts program from the Baldwin-Whitehall School District.

You can find the Connor's Cookies booth near the intersection of S. Millvale Avenue and Liberty Avenue along the festival route.
Tamar isn't the only Steel Center connection at the booth. The Connor's Cookies team also includes Bella Grant, a 2026 graduate of Steel Center's Medical Professions program from the Elizabeth Forward School District. Bella will begin Nursing School at CCAC next week.

West Penn Hospital is also offering free festival parking this weekend, making it even easier to spend some time exploring Bloomfield and enjoying the festival.

We love seeing our graduates out in the community—building businesses, pursuing their next steps, and supporting one another along the way. Make some time this weekend to enjoy a great Pittsburgh tradition, and while you're there, stop by Connor's Cookies for something sweet and show these Steel Center graduates some support!
