Class of 2027 - their last first day ⏰🥺

08/23/2026

Dear Clairton Families,
Welcome back! Our teachers, staff, and administrators are excited to welcome
our scholars this Monday, August 24th, and begin what we believe will be a great school year.
Our theme this year is:
Stronger Together: The Year of Kindness and Solutions
This year, we are focused on building strong relationships, setting clear
expectations, supporting positive choices, and helping our scholars understand
that their choices matter. We will celebrate good choices, provide support when
students struggle, and help our scholars learn from their mistakes and
understand that choices have consequences.
New Opportunities for Our Scholars
We are excited about the opportunities available to our scholars this year:
● Elementary: MicroSociety and STEM Coding will continue to build
creativity, problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and technology skills.
● Middle School: VEX STEM and Coding will provide hands-on
opportunities to design, build, code, and innovate.
● High School: Our new 12PLUS partnership will bring a full-time,
grant-funded employee to work with our scholars, alongside Talent
Search and our high school counselor, providing academic support and
resources for students and families as they prepare for college, careers,
trades, and service.
● Matt's Maker Space: This grant-funded initiative will refresh our high
school shop space and give students opportunities to create, build,
design, and explore real-world skills.
Staying Connected Through Alma
Another important focus this year is better communication with our families.
Please make sure you are signed into Alma, our student information system.
Alma allows you to:
● View your scholar's grades and academic progress
● Communicate with teachers
● Update your phone number, email, and contact information
● Receive important school and district communications
Students will only be issued Chromebooks after the electronic review and
completion of required district forms and the Student Handbook.
If you need help signing into Alma or updating your information, please reach
out to your school administrator. We are here to help!
Let's Make This Year Different
We know negativity will always exist. But this year, I want to challenge our
families, staff, and scholars to outdo each other with positivity.
If something is going well at Clairton, tell someone. Share it. Post it.
Celebrate it. If something isn't working or could be better, bring us a solution.
Let's move from simply identifying problems to working together to solve
them.
There is always room for improvement, and we will continue to listen, learn,
and grow. But we also need to celebrate the many good things happening in our
schools and recognize the people who are making a difference every day.
Let's choose kindness over negativity, solutions over complaints, and
partnership over division.
Thank you for being a good partner and for trusting us with your children. Your
voice, support, and partnership matter.
We are stronger together and this is our year!
With gratitude,
Dr. Tamara Allen-Thomas
Superintendent
