Culinary Arts San Juan High School

Culinary Arts San Juan High School Students are able to develop skills in culinary arts, catering, cake decorating, and baking and pastry arts with the opportunity to earn college credits.

This Family and Consumer Science pathway is made up of four integrated sequential courses that lead to entry level job opportunities, a community college technical preparation certificate or associate of arts degree, or a four year university degree. Community college credits may be earned towards a food service Management or Culinary Arts Degree at American River College and university credits ma

y be earned for Johnson & Wales University. At the 10th grade level, students concurrently take the Food and Nutrition I and II culinary arts foundation classes. Beginning at the 11th grade level, students may choose one of two directions, either the two year Restaurant and Commercial Food Preparation sequence where students manage and operate a restaurant simulation and cater both school and community events or the two year Baking and Pastry Arts program where students simulate a commercial bakery operation, prepare bakery orders for staff and the public and participate in on the job training at both in-store and specialty bakeries. Students at all levels develop a professional portfolio and earn a California Food Handler Card. Students also participate in guest speaker presentations, field trips, Family, Careers, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) leadership activities, ProStart events, and compete for scholarships.
