Children aren't understanding what they are reading and it's all linked back to simpler concepts like being taught in a qualitative way.

When students aren't taught to the level of mastery in an area such as comprehension, they continue onward struggling with reading concepts.

Your child does not have to continue to struggle with understanding what they are reading. Here is a perfect solution to help: https://learnthebasics.systeme.io/comprehend-conquer

Learn The Basics 05/27/2025

After many wonderful years serving students and families through Inspired Students/Tenacious Scholars, I’ve been reflecting on how much the students have grown and how much they still need.

While this chapter is coming to a close now, I’m excited to share that I’ve launched something new: a digital learning experience designed to support students in grades 4–10 with writing and reading, anywhere in the country.

If you’ve found value in what I’ve offered in the past, I’d love for you to check out my new project—and share it with families who might benefit. You can stay in the loop by subscribing at www.learnthebasics.net and following me at www.facebook.com/LearnTheBasicsOfficial

If you're ready to help your child's reading and writing skills this summer, click the PayPal link below to purchase. Once your payment is confirmed, you'll receive access to the first lesson. Let's make learning fun and effective together! https://bit.ly/4jxKfwc

To every parent, student, and supporter who I have met along this journey: I am so glad to have been a part of your child's learning journey.

Here’s to new beginnings,

Frontiers | Relationships between screen time and childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: a Mendelian randomization study 03/23/2025

Educators are finding a much higher number of ADHD students than ever before.

Studies are showing the significant impact when our children on the screen too much, during a certain period of their development, as well as the other factors involved.

I always tell parents the truth, a child's potential is best to be shown by giving them certain supports (I e. Reading with them each night, teaching them how to regulate their emotions, practicing math consistently, etc...) daily. Just like a plant thrives after 30 days of watering it and nurturing it well, so does a child's mind.

Phonics: Most Important Skill | IRD 01/20/2025

Is your child behind in reading?

The reason for this is likely because of the more simpler concepts they did not reach mastery in:

✨Sounding out 1-2 letter words, then 3-4 letter words, and so on

✨Having enough experience with the different vowel sounds (a,e,i,o,u) or vowel teams (ai, ea, ou, ee, ei, ie, oo,) another variations

✨Experiencing the consonant blends (tr, thr, str, sn, dr, br, pr, etc....)

Other indicators are also the factors missing of:

✨Having a continuous positive association to reading

✨Not having a relaxed or enjoyable experience with text they are comfortable with or capable of at the right steps over time

✨Reading not being valued enough or prioritized enough to stand out as something your child wants to do, would feel inspired to do, etc....

While there are oh, so many factors which come into play regarding "Why your child is struggling with reading", these are the predominant ones.

Reminder: Your child is making millions of brain connections as they are aging and learning in their day-to-day experiences. One change or adjustment could make a WORLD of difference for them today.

What a session looks like: 👩🏼‍🏫 🧑🏼‍💻👩🏻‍💻👨🏽‍💻🧑🏼‍💻

~Check-ins (8-10 min.): "How are things going for everyone? Let's celebrate the progress thus far!" 😀💯

~Coaching Time (10-12 min.):

Sarah's and Emmanel's show themselves they can subtract double digit problems independently for 10 minutes while Ms. Dilly observes. 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏽‍♂️

Max and Farah work with Ms. Dilly on a concept they are in need of before showing independent work, in an enjoyable way with dialogue and skills being enhanced. 🙇🏼‍♀️🙋🏼

Students celebrate their small to big wins and give "high fives" to each other, receiving rewards and motivations along the way. 🙌🏼

~Coaching Time (10-12 min.): 👩🏼‍🏫

Max and Farah show the independent level they are at while Sarah and Emmanuel are given feedback, challenges, etc...to take them to the next level of growth, in an enjoyable way with dialogue and skills being enhanced. 🧑🏼‍💻👨🏽‍💻

Students celebrate their small to big wins and give "high fives" to each other, receiving rewards and motivations along the way. 💪🏼🙌🏽

Note: Skype is used for sessions which has very neat abilities such as hearts❤️ that show up when scholars make a heart with their hands, fireworks🎆 when making this movement with their hands, etc...which are great during times of celebrations and wins. ✨

~Snack Time (5 min.)🥨😋

~Coaching Time (20 min.): 👩🏼‍🏫

Based on all 4 scholar's growth this far, upcoming tests, soon-to-be mastery, etc....all scholars would then work with me on 1 concept, chiming in on the particular aspect they are in most need of improving or in continued groupings which would benefit everyone the most, based on their current level of mastery with the topics being covered, as well as student skills such as taking time, organization of math work, etc... 🧑🏼‍💻👨🏽‍💻👩🏻‍💻🧑🏾‍💻

For example, Farah and Sarah may need more practice with the group on borrowing while Emmanuel and Max may need more practice on keeping their work organized and taking their time. 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏽‍♂️

During these times, scholars are guided to engage in a way that is collaborative, engaging, fun, motivating, and to encourage each other in their weak spots. A sense of comradery is always established and nurtured throughout these sessions. 😀😅😎🤓

Scholars are congratulated by each other and myself and given individualized tasks which will directly impact their grades and ease for immediate growth to occur. 👏🏼👏🏽👏🏻👏🏾

~Game time (10 min.):

Scholars rotate choosing an educational virtual game for all to play in, jeopardy style, learning how to be a good sport and have fun after all of their hard work. 🕹️🏆😀

~End of session:

Scholars say goodbye👋🏼, feeling good and prepared for what's to come next in their educational journey🦸🏼‍♀️.

They leave excited about their growth and have built a stronger connection🙂 with the peers they are working with as well as myself.

📩Parents are sent text messages and email updates being informed of successes which are happening in sessions, at least 1-3 times per week where often times scholars then experience a reward earned in their home🥰, giving them a sense of accomplishment and recognition which ignites their learning engine even further for sessions and growth to come.

Come and let your 9-year-old child have the fun and enjoyment they deserve while working diligently hard on their micro and macro concepts in math, reading, and/or writing.

Every child deserves this kind of balance which creates sustainability in their grades, confidence in their demeanor and a thriving atmosphere for educational growth to occur.
