Support independent music
teachers.

Teachers who work for franchise music studios (or any situation where the student pays the store and not the teacher)  usually only receive 30 to 40% of the tuition that’s paid by the student or the student’s parent.

This often results in a very high level of turnover and a need to replace teachers who realize they can make FAR more than $25 hourly teaching music on their own.

Look, I’ve had to do it before and I think it’s probably a good entry level position for somebody who wants a career doing this someday (but an actual music education and musical life experience, i.e. playing in bands, is just as important).

If you’re ever looking for an actual professional musician who gives lessons, reach out to me, and even if it’s not an instrument that I teach, I’ll refer you to an actual working musician who’s been at this awhile.
Don’t want reach out to me? Ask a music teacher at your school and tell tell you the same thing and refer you to somebody who’s qualified, experienced and less likely to jump ship the second they are offered five dollars more an hour.

It’s a jungle out there. Choose wisely.
