Tonight, we had the privilege of teaching 8 individuals live-saving skills. In return, they demonstrated competency in both their hands-on testing & exam, followed by earned their BLS certification✅🫀

Wonderful classes, like tonight- remind us why we love doing what we do. To teach people value information brings us such joy. We love learning our students; what they do for work, those who are going to school for what, and about their families.

‼️Things to remember when doing a blood draw‼️

✅Pop the tourniquet BEFORE removing the needle
✅Always wear gloves when handling bodily fluids (gloves not pictured here- no draw was actually being conducted)
✅Always introduce yourself
✅TWO patient identifiers (first & last name + DOB)
✅Go by “feel” not by “sight”- there are plenty of situations where you could have trouble seeing a vein, physically palpating is where it matters most (LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING)

Adults vs infant positioning & the “why” behind it…

👶🏽Infants; (ages 12 months are less) need their head tilted “slightly past neutral,” when receiving breaths, as their airways are more compact & smaller.

💡Memory trick: Tip of the nose toward the sky or roof ⛅️
✔️It’s also normal if, instead of slight chest rise, you witness flaring on the sides of the abdomen- remember they’re smaller & more compact. YOU’RE DOING GOOD‼️

👩🏽👨🏻Adult or anyone over the age of 1 year; ✨Full head tilt✨- you will accomplish this by doing the “head- tilt, chin- lift maneuver”

☝🏼Remember: Place your thumb on the mandible (this is the bone of your jaw 🦴) Placing on the soft tissue can obstruct the airway and result in not giving adequate breaths👎🏾

Why🤔? Adult airways have more length and longer structures. The larynx in an adult is lower in further from the mouth. In infants, the larynx is higher and is positioned closer to the mouth👄

Grace managed three SUCCESSFUL blood draws tonight. This young lady, is one of the most determined students that we’ve had the pleasure of working with. The smile at the end shows the true excitement & achievement she feels🤩 she’s 3 steps closer to finishing up & sitting for her proctored exam✅
