The sounds of students discovering a new career path.

Each month, students have the opportunity to sit down with local professionals and network over lunch during our Career Cafe. This month, students learned about trades in construction, barbering, landscaping, plumbing, electrical construction, automotives, and cooking.

In a full circle moment, two recent Purcell Marian graduates, Daniel Foy '21 and Masen Hendricks '23, who both learned about their careers at a Career Cafe, gave presentations about their vocations.

IB Informed Instruction encourages students to consider their own interpretations and others' critical perspectives to negotiate meaning in texts while communicating and collaborating confidently and creatively.

In Dr. Erken’s IB Language & Lit class, students read Tim O’Brien’s Vietnam War novel The Things They Carried, which uses fragmented writing to convey the emotional challenges young soldiers experienced.

Students were tasked with transforming the author’s choppy, reflective style and his themes into poems, comic strips, and diary entries, allowing students to form and voice their own interpretations. Students then performed or shared their work with the class, developing skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, presenting, and performing.
