To every Black teacher, current, former or retired reading, thank you for all you were, all you are and all you have made possible. You’ve been the hand on the back of hundreds of beginnings and the voice that many have carried with them long after leaving your classroom.

On , may you know that somewhere, someone is living with more courage because you helped them find their own. ❤️💚🖤

Today is a GOOD day to wish Ruby Bridges a HAPPY 72nd BIRTHDAY! 🎉❤️

At just 6 years old, Ruby Bridges made history by becoming the first Black child to integrate an all-white elementary school in New Orleans.

And today? She is 72. SEVENTY-TWO!

Let that sink in.

Ruby Bridges isn’t some distant figure from a history book. She isn’t “ancient history.” She is living, present-day history.

History isn’t always long ago. Sometimes, history is still walking among us.

Happy Birthday, Ruby! ❤️✊🏾

There’s no better day than today…

to “get in good trouble, necessary trouble and help redeem the soul of America.”

Today, with the support of Association for Teaching Black History in Kentucky, Kim Yates and I had the opportunity to present From Roots to Resistance: Tracing the Culinary Journey of the Black Community, a session rooted in the belief that food is one of our greatest historical texts.

We used We Will Write and Google Earth to trace the Middle Passage, following the forced migration that forever changed the Atlantic world. Along the way, we explored how African foodways survived unimaginable conditions, evolved through resilience, and continue to shape American cuisine today.

When we teach the history of food, we aren’t just talking about recipes, we’re honoring the people who carried seeds, traditions, and hope across an ocean, often against their will, and transformed them into a legacy that continues to nourish us today.

If only adults could learn something from kids. They see beyond skin color and recognize what truly matters: our hearts, our kindness, and the soul we share as human beings.

With all due no respect…

When you talk about “Black jobs,” remember that some of us have more degrees than you and it shows.

My Black job is teaching.

And let me be clear: there is absolutely nothing wrong with blue-collar work. Those jobs build this country and they deserve respect.

But what you won’t do is limit Black excellence to a narrow definition of what you think our work should be.
