🪐 Planet Bingo day at The Resonance Lab! 🪐

Our learners traveled the solar system this morning, one bingo square at a time. Every call was a chance to share what we know: which planet has the most moons, which one spins on its side, and why Mars looks red.

Overheard during the game:

Me: "You're basically an astronaut." 👩‍🚀
Learner: "I am actually an astronomer. I know a lot about the planets." 🔭

These ones are always keeping us in check!

Learning feels different when it's joyful. 💫

The Resonance Lab is hosting a trunk at the Blue Ash YMCA and Blue Ash Chamber's Community Trunk or Treat, and we'd love for YOU to be part of it! With about 500 kids and families expected, we want our trunk to be a place of joy, wonder, and connection. ✨

Here's how you can help:

🧡 Join us on the night to hand out treats and spread some magic

A few things we love at TRL:

Our community Word Wall. Created 100% by what the kids glean as important from various content areas we explore each day. We love when we're out in nature and someone says, "What does 'native' mean? Let's put it on our wall!"

Building mathematical models in different ways. Today, our 2nd and 3rd graders wrote multiplication and division models for each other using our nature trays. Our 7th grader, working on proportions, made Lego models scaled to different ratios.

Love this little community we're building here at TRL. 🍃❤️

We're in Cincy Magazine! 🎉

Every morning at The Resonance Lab starts in a circle, checking in with one another before the first lesson. Cincy Magazine shared what happens from there: breathwork and movement built into the day, one mixed-age pod where every child is deeply known, trips to the Y's Ninja Room and trails, and yes, Mr. Redlegs and Rosie Red meditating with us at our ribbon cutting (tornado warning and all 🌪️).

Kids are humans first and students second. When you build a school day around that, kids actually want to come to school in the morning. One of our students said exactly that, and it made our whole week. 💛

TRL students learned about the fall equinox today and then decided to build a fall fortress with our newly donated building bricks from the Blue Ash YMCA. Our students LOVE new classroom toys and it brings out their creativity as a team.

We are learning that the equinox brings equal parts light and dark, and we talked about balance and how this season is teaching us to honor our harvest and set new internal goals.

Before we learn about photosynthesis and plant our own garden, we took a nature walk to make some observations.

It was a big hit, and we learned about red honeysuckle and horse apples, too!

⏰ What time is it?

At TRL, even telling time becomes an opportunity to learn through real life.

We’re practicing reading clocks, understanding elapsed time, and connecting numbers to the rhythms of our day.

"What's your favorite time?"

"3:15 because that’s when school is over”... 🤪😂

Fair, child. Fair. 🤣

Learning should make sense in the real world. That’s where it starts to resonate. 💛

Ninja mode: activated. 🥷

It was too hot to be outside🥵, so our students took the heat inside — straight into the Ninja Zone.

But they didn't just run the course. They built it.

Kindergarten through seventh grade, sketching out obstacles, negotiating the rules, arguing over whether a wobbly landing counts, and rebuilding the whole thing when something didn't work. Vaults, leaps, rolls, one very determined crawl. Every ninja found the version of the challenge that pushed them just far enough.

Turns out the real ninja skills are the ones you can't see: figuring it out together, trying it again, and cheering for the kid still stuck on obstacle three.

Sensei? Not needed. TRL students have it covered.

Three things used to really scare us as school leaders.

None of them were dramatic. That's what made them horrifying. They were just... Tuesday.

A kid gets a label and a reputation instead of a name and a home.
A kid has a big emotion and gets penalized for expressing it.
A curious 9th grader becomes a compliant 11th grader, and everyone calls it growth.

We used to run buildings where all of that worked. Until... well, it didn't.

The Resonance Lab was built from a need and a recognition that our students and staff need something different. And this is where it resides.
