Grateful to the Edith Institute Institute for the invitation to facilitate such an important conversation centered on the health and well-being of Black mothers.

It was an honor to lead “Mama, Nourished: Food, Health, and Healing for Black Mothers,” creating space to explore how nutrition, wellness, and healing intersect throughout the maternal journey. Conversations like these remind us that supporting Black maternal health means caring for the whole person—mind, body, and community.

A special thank you to Joquelene Pressley of Cherished Hearts for co-facilitating this session. Your expertise, compassion, and commitment to serving mothers made this experience even more impactful. It was a privilege to share the space with you.

Thank you again to the Edith Institute for investing in conversations that prioritize education, equity, and the health of Black mothers. Here’s to continuing the work together.

Improving maternal health requires more than awareness. It requires collaboration across healthcare providers, researchers, community organizations, policymakers, and families to build systems that support healthy pregnancies and healthy communities.

At the UC HEART Hub Research Lab, we are committed to advancing research, fostering community partnerships, and translating evidence into action that promotes health equity for mothers and infants.

This Black Maternal Health Week, we honor the voices, experiences, and leadership of Black mothers while recommitting ourselves to creating a future where every pregnancy is supported and every family has the opportunity to thrive.

Together, we can move from awareness to action.

An inspiring kickoff to the summer. 🌍

Dr. K spent the start of her summer abroad sharing insights on the U.S. healthcare system and highlighting the work of the UC Heart Hub Research Lab with students from around the world.

The mission doesn’t stop at borders. Through research, education, and community engagement, we’re helping build healthier futures locally and globally.

Welcome back, Dr. K! 💜💚
