As a Hillsdale College Member School, Cincinnati Classical Academy is a public community school that provides a tuition-free, classical liberal arts education to approximately 1070 students from 73 zip codes in southwestern Ohio in grades K-10. We are kicking off our 2026–2027 Veritatis Splendor Speaker Series next Wednesday!

On Wednesday, October 7, CLASSICAL will welcome Dr. Jacob Imam as our featured speaker for an important and timely topic: AI & the Future of Human Work.

Iron Horse Field at Siebenthaler Campus recently received a facelift! Crews worked to install a new backstop on the baseball field. This replaces the old fencing that was in need of repair. We look forward to many future games at Iron Horse (and less runaway baseballs)!

Early in The Odyssey, before Telemachus ever sets sail from Ithaca, the goddess Athena comes to him in disguise. First she appears as Mentes, an old family friend, and urges the young man to seek news of his father. Then, in the form of another friend, Mentor, she helps him find a ship and crew and accompanies him on his voyage. Our ninth graders meet this scene in their study of Homer, and it came to mind earlier this week as I looked out over a room full of parents at our College Counseling Parent Information Night. The English word for a trusted guide descends from Mentor, that old man of Ithaca, and the whole evening was about the guides our high school students will have as they prepare, in a few short years, to leave home.

One of the Hillsdale College videographers looked around CLASSICAL this week and said, almost to himself, “This isn’t normal.”

Another crew member, after spending time in our classrooms, watching our students, and talking with our teachers, offered a different observation: “I think I’d enjoy working here myself.”

I have been thinking about those two comments ever since.
