Dear UC Law:
JLSA stands in support with the Asian-American, Asian, and Pacific Islander community against recent and historic hate and violence. As members of a historically persecuted community, we know how dangerous it is when leadership uses race, religion, and the traditions of certain communities to spark fear and divide a nation. The Jewish community stands firmly against racism, violence, and any rhetoric which leads to racism, hate and violence.
As we enter the Passover holiday next week, the Jewish people reflect on our “freedom” from slavery and exodus from ancient Egypt. This holiday is a celebration of liberation but also a solemn reminder of centuries of anti-Semitism, which still prevails today. Jewish hate historically began with government racism and anti-Jewish propaganda. Tropes that Jews “control the financial system and the media” were fed to people from governments to incite fear and division that ultimately led to ostracization and genocide.
Today, we see this same pattern of treatment directed toward the Asian community here in the United States. Phrases like “Wuhan flu” and the “Chinese virus” inspire and embolden racism, fear and attacks on the Asian community. Following the events in Atlanta and a year of ramped-up racism against the Asian community, JLSA would like to acknowledge the insidiousness of government-fueled racist remarks and the damage of the “model minority” mindset to the Asian community.
We stand with the Asian community today and always in the fight against hate, racism, and violence.
Signed,
Jewish Law Students Association

The Admissions Team is looking to increase representation on our ambassador program, the Admissions Experience Champions. We are reaching out specifically to our student affinity groups to offer an opportunity that gives you platform to tell your stories to prospective students, to share personal experiences on student panels, and to offer representation for specific student organizations where you are supported, and your voices are heard.
Current law students occupy a critical role in helping future students decide if Cincinnati Law is the best place for them, and we look to have an ambassador program that encompasses the diverse backgrounds of all our students. This program is not your standard ambassador program; it is a leadership and professional development opportunity allowing you to truly engage and impact the admissions process. We are asking for your help in building a well-rounded and diverse incoming class.
We hope to see you at the info session at the times stated on the flyer.

Today we remember the 6 million Jews killed during the Holocaust and millions of others who were victims of na**sm. Standing up against fascism matters now more than ever.

Dear Bearcat Nation and the Clifton Community:
The Jewish Law Students Association at University of Cincinnati College of Law recognizes this important moment in history. We stand in solidarity with those who are oppressed and continue to be oppressed. Our mission at the College of Law is to celebrate Judaism, raise awareness about our religion and culture, and fight anti-Semitism and racism on campus and in our community. JLSA fully supports the initiative to remove the name Marge Schott from the baseball stadium and demands swift action.
Marge Schott was openly racist against Jewish, Black, and Japanese people. Schott was suspended from baseball for one year for using racial slurs and was forced to give up day-to-day control of the Cincinnati Reds after publicly praising Adolf Hi**er. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Memorializing her name on a building on campus is painful reminder for those who still feel the pain of oppression, those whose families suffered through racism and oppression, and for allies who fight with those who are oppressed. If the University of Cincinnati does not take her name off the building, the school knowingly supports the oppressor. If UC does not take her name down, it casts a clear vote for the wrong side of history.
Awareness precedes change. JLSA hopes to shine awareness on the dark personal views of this local philanthropist in hopes of helping pass this initiative. Please sign and share this petition in support of removing the name Marge Schott from the UC baseball stadium. Thank you.

Chag sameach to all of our classmates, professors, and friends celebrating Passover. As you commemorate the exodus, spare a moment to consider the following, adapted from the HIAS Haggadah:
When we rise up from our Seder tables, let us commit ourselves to stamping out xenophobia and hatred in every place that it persists. May we see welcoming the stranger at our doorstep not as a danger but an opportunity—to enrich the fabric of our country, to deepen our experience of the world around us, and to live out our Jewish values in action.
