🤝 Strong locals, stronger together!

Last week, leaders from several of SWOEA’s large local associations came together at an OEA meeting to connect, share experiences, and discuss the unique challenges and issues facing large locals across Ohio.

We were proud to have leaders representing:

These conversations provide an opportunity for local leaders to learn from one another, share ideas, and work together to strengthen our associations and better support our members.

Thank you to all of our SWOEA members, families, and friends who joined us for Public Education Matters Day at the Cincinnati Zoo! It was wonderful to see so many members come together, connect with one another, and celebrate the importance of public education.

🤝 A special shoutout to our SWOEA retirees who attended the Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA) meeting a few weeks ago!

Our retirees had the opportunity to hear from Sherrod Brown, who recognized OEA and OEA-R during his remarks. He also took time to stop and take a photo with our SWOEA group! 📸

We’re grateful to our SWOEA retirees for continuing to stay connected, engaged, and involved in our union community. ❤️🍎

🧩 Truth on Issues: The Puzzle of Property Tax

What happens to Ohio’s public schools if property taxes are eliminated?

Property taxes are a critical piece of the funding puzzle for public education. But what happens when that piece is removed?

Join us Wednesday, September 23 at 5:00 p.m. for a 90-minute Zoom informational session with Dan Ramos, OEA Director of Government Relations.

We’ll explore:
🏫 Why property taxes exist and what they fund
📚 How property taxes support Ohio’s public schools
🧩 What could happen to school funding if property taxes are eliminated
💡 Why eliminating a revenue source without a clear replacement plan could have serious consequences

📣 Join Us for a Town Hall with Karen Brownlee!

Come meet Karen Brownlee, current Ohio State Representative for District 28 and candidate for re-election, and hear directly from her about her work, experience, and priorities.

This town hall is open to everyone! You do not need to live in District 28 to attend. Whether you live in the district, work nearby, or simply want an opportunity to hear from and ask questions of a state representative, we’d love to have you join us.

District 28 includes communities in the northeastern Cincinnati area, including Blue Ash, Deer Park, Evendale, Forest Park, Loveland, Montgomery, Sharonville, Springdale, Sycamore Township, Symmes Township, and part of Springfield Township.
