Information about me and my studio.

My name is Alea Louise Vernon and I am a private voice / music teacher in the Cincinnati area. I received my Bachelors of Music from CCM (University of Cincinnati) and received a Graduation Certificate from The Juilliard School (pre college division.)

I have experience working with both children and adults in a range of ages and experience. I teach both in person and virtually, and am willing to travel to my students houses to give lessons in the Cincinnati area.

As a child I grew up playing the violin starting at age 4 and started singing when I was 13. My musical background is based in Suzuki training (ear training) and my vocal background is classical. I am a professional opera singer, and perform a plethora of repertoire in other genres such as pop music, jazz, and broadway. My teaching is very much rooted in my own experience as a musician and singer.

Below are two of my main principles.

To sing any kind of genre, a singer learns technique, which in truth is based in classical singing. The metaphor I like to use is if you are a professional football player you still need to learn how to use and train your body, and do practices like Pilates and yoga. Technique in singing is the same. From rock, to country, to Broadway belting, to opera, to pop, no matter the genre one is singing, a healthy technique is key to singing well, and healthily for a long time, without injury. I instil an emphasis on healthy singing, since we are working with a muscle after all, especially in my younger students.

The other key principle of my teaching is instilling and creating an environment for a love of music and singing wherever that might take them. I have students who are professionally performing, and students who love to sing, and everyone in between. I believe singing and music are a beautiful part of life and something that has a place in everyone’s life.

Lastly. Singing is a vulnerable thing. We are our own instruments and our singing, is sharing the core of who you are. It is important to me to give my students confidence in themselves, and be a part of them growing their own confidence and self worth.

I started teaching voice privately in 2018, and prior started teaching violin and general music lessons in 2013.
