Tonight we celebrate our amazing 5th graders as they prepare to move on to middle school next year. We have loved being part of your journey, watching you grow, learn, and make memories along the way. While we will miss you, we are so excited for all that your future holds. Keep working hard, believing in yourselves, and reaching for your dreams. We know great things are ahead for each of you!

Today we held our very first Second Grade Math Bee, and what an incredible experience it was! The top 31 second graders competed in a math fact fluency competition focused on addition and subtraction facts. The race was close, but congratulations to Giuseppe for being our overall winner!

To celebrate all of their hard work, all 31 students walked over to McDonald’s to enjoy their reward lunch, and Giuseppe received a $25 Nova gift card for taking first place.

This Math Bee was about so much more than winning. Since February, our second graders have been working hard to improve their math fact fluency, and the growth has been amazing. At the beginning of the challenge, the grade-level average was 12 facts correct in one minute. By the end, the average increased to 19 facts correct in one minute — an overall improvement rate of 58%! One class even improved by an incredible 109%!

A huge thank you to our principals, Trey and Ryan, for believing in this idea from the very beginning and doing everything possible to support it and make it happen. Thank you also to our second grade teachers for being willing to try something new and encourage their students every step of the way.

Most importantly, thank you to our students. They showed up, worked hard, encouraged one another, and proved that practice and perseverance pay off. We are so proud of every single one of them!

A huge shout out to our PTA for sponsoring this event and helping make it all happen. We are so thankful for your support of our students and staff!

Fit for Fun day is tomorrow! Please have your child wear athletic clothes (each grade level will have a specific color to wear—see image), wear gym shoes, apply sunscreen before school, and bring a water bottle labeled with their name.

Since February, our 2nd grade classes have been working hard to improve their addition and subtraction fact fluency. As a grade level, the students increased from an average of 12 correct facts in one minute to 19 correct facts in one minute — an incredible 58% rate of improvement!

We are so proud of the effort, determination, and growth shown by all of our students. Congratulations to the top five students from each class, along with five additional wild card students from across the grade level, who will be participating in our Math Fact Fluency Bee and celebrating with lunch at McDonald’s.
