General information
Donald "Buddy" LaRosa came from a working-class neighborhood on Cincinnati's West Side. After his hitch in the Navy, he worked in different jobs but had a passion for his own business. With $400 and two partners, he opened a small pizzeria in Cincinnati's Little Italy.
As his business grew and spread to other communities, he couldn't help but notice the blight and deprivation in some inner city communities he served. He noted, that in such environments, our youths are obviously underserved and under-nurtured. Enjoying the success of a growing business and the ability to delegate some of his responsibilities, he was compelled to direct his passion towards these underserved youths. The problems were easily recognizable, but, more importantly, he wanted to be part of the solution.
He began to open and equip boxing gyms to help alleviate the idle time of our youths and to offer an opportunity to involve families and communities. Through these vehicles, he could also channel educational opportunities and life skills to the youth of the community.
