A design practice that last knows how to change.

With more than 30 years in the field, DAAP alumna Yetta Starr has built her career around collaboration, problem-solving, and designing spaces that respond to community needs. What can the way we design public spaces teach us about how people connect?

UC DAAP’s Vikas Mehta studies public spaces and sociability, exploring how the design of neighborhoods and main streets shape the way people interact and experience cities. His research examines what makes places resilient, welcoming, walkable and fun. And is drawing the attention of fields beyond urban design, from computer science to the Federal Reserve.

What if you could create art out of grass clippings? 🌱

UC DAAP professor and artist Mrin Aggarwal is turning discarded grass into biodegradable bioplastics, blending art, science, design, and sustainability in a practice that challenges how we think about everyday materials. What makes her work stand out even more is her commitment to keeping the process open source, encouraging others to experiment, learn, and build on the idea.
