College Hill neighborhood leader Seth Walsh tapped to replace Greg Landsman 12/19/2022

Congratulations to Seth Walsh, Xavier Class of 2013 (Political Science), who will be sworn in today as a Cincinnati City Council member. “In addition to being an exceptionally engaged student on campus, Seth was always very community oriented,” Mack Mariani, Xavier professor of political science, says. “He's been very generous with his time and expertise as an alumnus, meeting and mentoring with students, participating in events and panels, and helping connect students to civic engagement opportunities throughout the Cincinnati area." Walsh will replace Greg Landsman U.S. Rep-elect for Ohio’s 1st Congressional District.

Ohio-based twin sculptors inspired by working class 12/09/2022

Growing up in New Castle, Indiana, Xavier Art Professor Kelly Phelps and his twin brother Kyle grew up hearing stories about the factories where their families worked. Kelly and Kyle also worked in those same factories, many now closed. Inspired to keep working-class history alive, Phelps and his brother have sculpted artwork that preserves this part of the American story.

Local art gallery 1628 Ltd. will feature three Xavier University CAS students in its exhibition "Campus Creatives: Ohio Valley’s Emerging Artists." Juniors Aleni Antalis, Nicholas Namyar, and Jenna Wood are among the 10 local artists whose work is featured in the exhibition which runs through February 24, 2023.

Thirty-three Xavier University American Sign Language students volunteered at the annual Chili Cook-off hosted by the Hearing Speech and Deaf Center of Cincinnati held at St. Rita’s School for the Deaf in November. Students helped set up, serve chili, run children’s activities, sell raffle tickets, and clean up when the event was over. Students met and interacted with members of the Greater Cincinnati Deaf Community and used their ASL skills in a real-life application.
