The first $2000 Jim Boothe Endowed Scholarship was awarded last night to Soroya Smith. She is the Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator for Mason City Schools and a student in the School Administration graduate program at Xavier University. Jim Boothe presented Soroya with the award at the Barrington Adult Living Center in West Chester. A small crowd of Xavier faculty and staff attended as well as Jim, his wife Marilyn, and his daughter Lisa Fey. The award will be given once a year to a deserving graduate student in the Educational Leadership program.

Jim Boothe was a principal and superintendent in the Reading City Schools for 30 years and then came to Xavier and served as full professor, chair of the Education Department and for a brief time served as the dean of the college of social sciences. He retired from Xavier in 2015 after 28 years of service. Congratulations Soroya!

A gift to the James Boothe Endowed Scholarship will help support students in need who are pursuing a masters or doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. Jim’s career gave evidence to the value of the Jesuit tradition and the value and dignity of servant leadership. Thank you for considering a donation to this worthy scholarship fund.
