Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati proudly announces that the Rock and Roll Robotics Team earned 1st Place at the VEX IQ Robotics State Championship Event, held March 2–3 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Team members Isaiah Calloway, Jerry Drew, and Romante Boykin, under the guidance of Coach Zak, demonstrated exceptional engineering skill, teamwork, and strategy while competing in this year’s VEX IQ
challenge titled “Mix and Match.” The challenge required teams to design, build, and program robots capable of strategically sorting and scoring game elements while working cooperatively with alliance partners.

Their performance secured the Teamwork Championship Award, the event’s top honor recognizing the highest scoring collaborative performance in the robotics challenge.

In addition to the championship title, the team also received the Sportsmanship Award, recognizing their professionalism, cooperation with other teams, and positive representation of their school community.

“This achievement was truly a team effort, and I’m incredibly grateful to the staff who supported our students by
covering classes and allowing us the time during SOAR to prepare, practice, and make this success possible,” said Coach Zak.

With their state victory, the Rock and Roll Robotics Team has qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship, which will take place in April in St. Louis. The world championship brings together top robotics teams from across the United States and around the globe to compete, collaborate, and celebrate innovation in STEM.

Congratulations to all those who performed this afternoon at HSA Cincy’s 4th Annual Talent Show! Each performer showed great courage to perform their talents for the school.

Yesterday, HSA Cincy received a visit from leadership team from Chicago. The Team toured our school, observed classrooms, and connected with numerous students, staff, and parents.

School will be closed on Tuesday, February 3rd, due to snow and ice. Classes will resume on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026.

Please be advised, we will not be in session tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 30th, 2026. We can’t wait to see you on Monday! Stay safe!
