Why did the FBI recruit Catholic high school girls in Chicago? 02/25/2026

πŸ’™πŸ’› Notre Dame Women Making History πŸ’™πŸ’›

Did you know the FBI once actively recruited Catholic high school girls in Chicago for their exceptional skills, discipline, and education?

For generations, Catholic education has empowered young women to lead, to serve, and to step confidently into roles of impact β€” sometimes even in unexpected places like federal intelligence work.

Former alumnae, Patricia DePasquale '47, along with Notre Dame High School for Girls was highlighted in the article.

Why did the FBI recruit Catholic high school girls in Chicago? For a few decades starting in the 1940s, the FBI recruited high school girls for clerical work. A Chicago Catholic school was a go-to spot.

Sister Mary Lou Stoffel, SNDdeN 02/24/2026

We lovingly remember Sister Mary Lou Stoffel, a proud member of the Notre Dame High School Class of 1953 and a loyal Chicagoan whose life reflected faith, dedication, and joyful service. Sister Mary Lou went home to God on February 16.

Sister Mary Lou made a profound impact at St. Robert Bellarmine, where her presence, leadership, and commitment to Catholic education touched countless students and families. Her legacy is one of compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to the mission she so deeply believed in.

As a Notre Dame alumna, she carried the spirit of ND with her throughout her ministry β€” forming minds, nurturing hearts, and faithfully serving her community.

We are grateful for her witness and the many lives she shaped along the way. Please join us in praying for Sister Mary Lou, her family, friends and Sisters that beautifully celebrated her life this past weekend.
