I’m in Huntington, West Virginia today to speak for the Child Nutrition Team at Cabell County School District. 90 minutes of training for the whole team, followed by one hour of leadership skills training for the kitchen managers. It was a great day with a great group of professionals! Thanks to Travis Austin for inviting me in! You have an awesome team!

This is why I give Child Nutrition departments and SNA groups a half-price discount from what I charge corporate clients. The work they do is SO important, SO challenging, and SO under-appreciated. Fortunately, it’s also SO rewarding!
And that $4.70 doesn’t just pay for food cost, BTW. It also has to cover salaries, uniforms, equipment cost and maintenance, technology, and training. Child nutrition professionals are doing the impossible everyday!
School Nutrition Association
The most regulated kitchen in your city is not a Michelin-starred restaurant.
It is your school cafeteria. And the people running it are there every single morning whether anyone notices or not.
That is what showing up looks like.
If you work in school nutrition, drop your school name below. We want this thread to be a map of every cafeteria showing up today. 💛

I’m back in sunny Bakersfield, California to facilitate part 3 of a 4-part series of training sessions for kitchen managers Greenfield Union School District on the topic “Leadership Skills for Child Nutrition Professionals.” I love customizing training for an industry and specific client! Should be a great day of learning and development!

I’m in Xenia, Ohio this morning, facilitating a 4-hour Leadership workshop for employees of Xenia Community Schools! This is the first of two sessions with this group, with the follow-up scheduled in August. I love multi-session training projects like this, because I can assign homework! When we reconvene this summer, each attendee will have to share with the group in what ways they have attempted to be a better leader and how it went!

I had a fun opportunity today to speak to middle-schoolers taking a class called “Communication and Healthy Habits.” They have been using my book as a textbook and integrating my YouTube videos into the curriculum all semester.
Today was the last day of school and another class on “Life Skills” joined, as well as some of the parents who wanted to hear me speak.
I gave a talk, called “Mindset: How You Think Determines Your Life. I told them the subtitle was “Things I Wish Someone Would’ve Taught Me When I Was in School.”
The kids were great - respectful and engaged - and I think the parents got something out of it too!
Thanks to the teacher Katie Chesner for inviting me in, and for your incredible commitment to bettering the lives of those young people! They are blessed to have you in their lives!

The largest restaurant chain in America isn't McDonald's, Starbucks, or Subway.
It's public schools!
95,000 locations, 30 million students, and 7.5 billion meals a year!
Over the last 26 years, I have done speaking and training for the Child Nutrition departments at more than 800 school districts in 49 states.
I have met and interacted with hundreds of thousands of School Nutrition professionals, maybe more than anyone else ever has. I can tell you that they are some of the most hard-working, resilient, compassionate, underappreciated, brilliant, flexible, and extraordinary people in the world. They work as hard (or harder) than the other employees in their districts, for a fraction of the compensation and recognition.
They work under extremely strict nutritional requirements from the USDA, and very tight fiscal constraints, all while getting a thousand complaints from negative people for every one compliment.
Today is National School Lunch Hero Day. Look up your local district's Nutrition page on Facebook and tell them how much you appreciate the amazing work they do!

I had the opportunity last week to speak for an extraordinary company in Vermont. The session was for extremely bright, hardworking, under-constant-pressure, running multi-million dollar projects, construction superintendents.
Their CEO attended my training (when he really didn’t have to) and then sent me this gracious and humbling endorsement. I love working with great leaders of great organizations. Thanks, Matt! I’ll be adding this to the “Raving Fans” page of my website! Hope to work with you and your team again in the future!
