🌱 Leadership isn’t something we wait until adulthood to teach. We give young people opportunities to practice it now.
At CUP, Positive Youth Development means seeing young people not simply as recipients of programs, but as people who already have strengths, ideas, abilities, and something valuable to contribute to their community.
One of our favorite ways to make that happen is by giving our older students opportunities to lead our younger students. 💙
Sometimes leadership looks like creating “Veggie-opoly,” a game designed by students to teach their peers about growing vegetables. 🥕🥦 Sometimes it’s an older student sitting down with our preschoolers and reading them a story. 📚 And sometimes it means grabbing a shovel and showing everyone else how to turn the compost pile. 🌱
These may seem like small moments, but they’re doing something important.
Our older students get to experience themselves as capable, knowledgeable, needed, and trusted. They practice communication, responsibility, patience, problem-solving, and empathy. And our younger children get something equally valuable: older kids they can look up to who are showing them what leadership looks like.
We don't want leadership to be something our students only hear adults talk about.
We want them to experience what it feels like to have something to offer—and to use it to help someone else grow. 💙
That’s Positive Youth Development in action.

🎉 Afterschool looks a little different at CUP this year—and we LOVE it!
We’ve revamped our afterschool program around something we know about kids: they learn a whole lot while they’re having fun.
After spending the school day in a classroom, kids need time to move, imagine, create, make choices, build friendships, and PLAY. And while it might look like they’re just having a good time, there’s a whole lot of learning happening along the way. 💙
Playing restaurant means practicing communication, cooperation, math, and creativity. Trading and organizing cards means negotiating, problem-solving, and sharing interests with friends. Building and imaginative play require planning, flexibility, and teamwork.
And woven through all of it is leadership. 🌱
Our students are learning to take initiative, work through disagreements, include others, make responsible choices, share ideas, and discover the unique ways they can contribute to their community.
Because afterschool shouldn't feel like another six hours of school. Kids deserve a place where they can exhale, have fun, belong, and still grow.
That’s what we’re building at CUP.
More play. More connection. More leadership. A whole lot of fun. 🎨🧩🏀🎮

💛 Learning How to Work It Out 💛

Some of the most important lessons our students learn don’t come from a textbook.
When a conflict comes up, Ms. White takes the time to help students slow down, talk through what happened, listen to one another, and figure out how to move forward together.

Conflict resolution is a life skill. Learning how to communicate feelings, hear someone else’s perspective, take responsibility, solve problems, and repair relationships gives our kids tools they’ll use long after they leave the classroom.
We’re grateful for teachers like Ms. White, who understand that teaching the whole child means being there for these moments, too. ❤️

Sometimes education looks like pencils and paper. And sometimes it looks like sitting together outside and learning how to make things right. 🌱

🎉📚 The first day of school is officially in the books at Urban Promise Academy ! 📚🎉

There was a lot of excitement around CUP as our UPA students returned for a brand-new school year! 💙 From welcoming students into their classrooms to learning new routines, reconnecting with friends, and getting right down to learning, it was an AWESOME first day.

We are especially grateful for our incredible Urban Promise Academy teachers and staff who worked so hard to make today special. They poured countless hours into preparing classrooms, planning lessons, organizing supplies, and making sure every student walked into a space where they felt welcomed, loved, and ready to learn. ❤️

UPA is just one piece of the work happening every day at Cincinnati Urban Promise, and we love getting to watch our students grow from their earliest years through elementary school and beyond.
Here’s to our UPA students, families, and teachers — and to an amazing 2026–27 school year! 🎉

😎 And judging by those first-day shades… they’re pretty excited to be back too!

🚌 WE'RE HIRING DRIVERS — and no, you don't need a CDL!

Cincinnati Urban Promise is looking for two drivers to help get our Urban Promise Academy students to and from school safely this year.

💛 $20/hour
💛 No CDL required — just a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
💛 Two options:

AM/PM Driver — morning + afternoon routes on school days (~6:15–8:00am & 2:30–4:15pm)
AM-Only Driver — one morning route, about 90 minutes, done by 8am. Perfect for retirees, parents after drop-off, or anyone who's up early anyway!

You'd be the first smile our kids see in the morning and the last one they see on the way home. If that sounds like you (or someone you know — tag them!), we'd love to hear from you.

🪨🧵 Patterns are Everywhere! 🧵🪨
Who knew a handful of rocks and colorful beads could teach such an important math skill?
Our students have been exploring patterns by stacking rocks and creating beaded strings with repeating color sequences. While they were having fun designing and building, they were also strengthening critical early learning skills like observation, prediction, sequencing, and problem-solving. Learning is always more exciting when it's hands-on! 💙

🛑❤️ Knowledge is Power. ❤️🛑
This week, our middle school students tackled an important topic: recognizing child abuse, understanding what it is, and knowing what to do if they or someone they know needs help.
As part of the lesson, students worked together to plan a mock "No Child Abuse" Rally, creating signs and discussing ways to raise awareness about protecting children and speaking up for those who may not have a voice.
These conversations aren't always easy, but they are incredibly important. We want every young person to know:
💙 They deserve to feel safe.
💙 Abuse is never their fault.
💙 There are trusted adults who will listen and help.
At Cincinnati Urban Promise, we're committed to educating the whole child—not only academically, but socially and emotionally. Equipping students with the knowledge to recognize unsafe situations and the confidence to seek help is part of helping them grow into strong, informed, and resilient young people.
Because every child deserves to be safe, valued, and heard.

🪽🎨 Every Summer, Our Wings Will Grow. 🎨🪽
This summer, our middle school students created something that is more than just an art project—they created the beginning of a tradition.
Each student designed and colored a unique feather, representing their own personality, creativity, and journey. Together, those individual feathers became our Wings of Promise.
Every summer, a new group of students will add their own feathers to the display. Year after year, these wings will continue to grow until they stretch across the entire wall—a colorful reminder of every child who has been part of our Summer of Promise family.
No two feathers are exactly alike, just like no two students are exactly alike. Yet together, they create something far more beautiful than any one feather could alone.
Years from now, students will be able to point to the wall and say, "I made that." They'll see that they are part of something bigger—a community that continues to grow with every child who walks through our doors.
We can't wait to watch our Wings of Promise spread a little farther each summer. 💙
