Sad news to relate. I've heard from a couple of our classmates that Bob Shearman has died. He was living out west near the Grand Tetons, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He's going to be buried out west. Plans are underway for a memorial in Cincinnati, scheduled to take place sometime this summer. If I get more details, I'll post them here. See below in ommants for his Cincinnatiati obit.
I found some pictures of Bob, and one was supplied by Mark Bauer from a recent Cardinal Pacelli reunion they both attended. Thank you Mark for the information and that shot of Bob.
I know Bob worked on the Delta Queen for many years, but I don't know much about his life otherwise. I do know he was unique and probably the most colorful individual in our class-- in some respects. No offense to the other colorful characters in our crazy class -- we had a few.
May Bob Rest In Peace.
Here's the OBIT: Bob was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Bob & Betty Lee (Metz) Shearman, both deceased. He grew up on Grace Ave. in Hyde Park and went to Cardinal Pacelli grade school. He graduated from Purcell High School in 1971.
After attending UC College for a few years, he & his good friend Greg Momper (RIP) went to work as waiters on the Delta Queen & Mississippi Queen Riverboats. Bob eventually became maître d and continued in that capacity on several ocean-going cruise ships.
Bob was active in 12th Step work also. He gave his time and energy to various events at Charlie’s 3/4 House on Vine St. and Catholic Worker’s Relief House on Walnut St.
Bob is survived by siblings Jay (Elizabeth) Shearman, Michael Shearman, Mary Pat (Bill) Gemmer and John (Vickie) Shearman. He was Uncle Bob to many nieces & nephews with 7 grand nieces & nephews in the process of knowing him. He also leaves a hole in the heart of his good friend, Mary “Sam” Fitzgerald. The two provided mutual support to each other over the years.
Bob will be cremated in Wyoming and his ashes spread by family & lodge staff on a nearby mountain where Bob loved to sleep out under the stars. This will take place in June. A gathering will take place soon in Cincinnati. Stay connected to the grapevine for information regarding that event.
Finally, our family thanks all of Bob’s friends for sharing in our grief. It’s difficult to know he’s gone. We will miss him!
