We, the Tamil Sangam team and Tamil school principal, met Kim Ashman, Mason City school facility manager, to honor her service and involvement in the Tamil school. She is retiring this year. She has been a great support to our Tamil school. We want to thank her support and help in growing our Tamil school.

We are excited to share the details for the GCTS Tamil school 2023’ Thirukkural recital and competition!

Date:Jan 14th 2023
Time: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Place:William Mason High School, 6100 Mason Montgomery Rd. Mason, OH 45040. [Gate D-16]
Where to register: At Tamil school frontdesk/ kids class teachers.
Last date to Register: Dec 23rd 2022 11:59pm


Kids can choose and recite Thirukkurals only from the following Adhigaarams.

1. காலமறிதல்
2.சான்றாண்மை
3.பண்புடைமை
4.விருந்தோம்பல்
5.ஒப்புரவறிதல்
6.ஈகை
7.ஒழுக்கமுடைமை
8.அருளுடைமை
9.தெரிந்துதெளிதல்
10.ஊக்கமுடைமை


Group-1 : (Recital only)
1)Ages 6 to 10
2)Can recite any 12 Thirukkurals from above Adhigaarams
3)Have to say meaning only in Tamil for any 5 Thirukkurals out of 12 .
4)Time Limit : 5 mins
5)Judges' decision is the final decision!!!

Bring 3 copies of the Thirukurals and the meanings that will be recited.

Group-1 is ***Recital only,not a Competition***. Medals will be awarded to the kids who are successful in reciting the Kurals.

Group-2 : (Competition)
1)Age 11+
2)30 thirukkurals to be memorized.
3)Give the list of Thirukkural to the judges to question.
a)Judges can ask the starting word of the kural, and the kid should be able to recite that kural.
b)Judges will ask the meaning of the kural in Tamil, and the kid has to tell the
corresponding kural.
c)Judges say the Kural and the kid says the meaning of the kural in Tamil.

4)Only the top 3 prizes will be distributed.
5)Judges' decision is the final decision!!!

Bring 3 copies of the Thirukurals and the meanings that will be recited.


NOTE- To keep consistency among contestants, meaning provided by Solomon Pappaiah will only be accepted. Please look at the link provided.
