The Significance of Supralapsarianism

Theological ignorance is by no means bliss. We should strive, by God's grace, to grow in the grace and knowledge and learn more about the Gospel and about the blessed Word of God.

One of the most prevalent doctrinal issues is that of whether infralapsarianism or supralapsarianism is biblical. Whilst the large, scholarly words can seem daunting, the concepts are quite simple. Infralapsarians will argue that the Fall took place and then God decreed to send a Saviour. This is unbiblical because it makes God reactionary, as if He didn't see the Fall coming and therefore had to react to it.

Isaiah 46:10 NKJV
"Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure."

To say that God is reactionary is contrary to His character.
His Sovereignty, omnipotence and omnipresence means, there is nothing unforeseen, unknown or undecreed (Eph. 1:11-12). There is nothing that comes to pass except what the Lord God has purposed, willed and decreed. Pastor Scott Price explained it by saying, "God does what He does because of Who He is."

The biblical view of the Fall is from a Supralapsarian point of view. Supralapsarians arque that God decreed the Fall, as well as absolutely everything else, of course. Pastor Scott Price also put it well when he said, "Christ must die, therefore Adam must fall."
It is vital to remember that Christ comes first.

Christ's death is essentially the centre of God's decrees. Why? Because God is most glorified in the death of His Son.
The reason why anything exists is to glorify God. The chief purpose of everything is to honour and magnify the Almighty. And since the pinnacle of God's glory is at the cross, God decreed the Fall because, with no Fall, no sin would be in the world, and with no sin in the world, there would be no need for Christ to die.
