As you will be able to see for yourself, a lot of people contribute to SwouZy Blues and - we think - do a pretty good job, We are deeply grateful for the staff, instructors, musicians, students, community members and dancers who help to make SwouZy Blues a quality, enriching experience.
Of course we can always get better and there are always new things to consider. Without the input that many of you provide, we might miss opportunities to keep the good vibes flowing and improving!
Thank you for all of the great encouragement, criticism, and suggestions. We are listening and will continue to do so. You can expect us to continue our feedback program at future SwouZy Blues and hopefully improve upon that as well.

Last Saturday (Oct 4) we had a fun community performance at Moonlight at Mt. Echo - an event benefitting Mt Echo Park. Our crack swing dance crew did a brief routine consisting partly of Shim Sham, Synchronized Swing Outs, and Improvisational Dancing.
Our group was 17 dancers of all levels representing our community and including leadership from Blues Dance Cincinnati, SwinGallery, CincyHop, and SupermurgaNati!
We hope to have many more Community Performance Opportunities in the future!

As we head back to school and move toward cooler weather, there is a LOT going on in SupermurgaNati! world!
Swing Dance Sunday School Premiers!
September 21 (Sunday) we will debut a new initiative: Swing Dance Sunday School (SDSS). This will be an "almost monthly" local Cincinnati event that allows for more instruction at a variety of levels as well as social time, including (occasionally) dances. Our first SDSS will be lead by Joel and Sam Uebel. It will also be entirely free. We will spend the day working on common choreography, using the common choreo to create community performance pieces, and then planning ways of making community performances happen more frequently as well as having them include more of the community. Looking ahead, the second SDSS will November 16 and will feature Shannon Varner, a brilliant world-wide Lindy Hop luminary and leader of the Columbus Swing Dance Community, working with Joel. More details will be forthcoming.
A Buttress and Transition for Blues Dance Cincinnati
Our friend and founder of Blues Dance Cincinnati (BDC), Bryan Sykes, just got married to the wonderful Elizabeth Brown at the end of August. with the change in his relationship status (sorry ladies!) also comes a change in residence. Although Bryan will still be involved and local, his drive to the Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum will be a little longer than before. Nevertheless, Bryan really wants to keep Blues Dance Cincinnati going strong. He has reached out to Joel to assist with the management and ongoing success of BDC's events. So far the community has responded brilliantly, and in particular I'd like to thank Daniel Verdon and Meghan Zuelke of Queen City Swing Dance as well as Sally Kokenge, Noah Wotherspoon, Jim Goeke, Abby Thrasher, Rachel Payne, Rita Seith, Charlie Fuller, for their help with keeping BDC alive and strong. We will have dances on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month through November and hopefully further on. Our next two BDC's (Sep 23 and Oct 14) will feature live music by the Sonny Hill Trio, who's legend continues to grow after their great dance sets at the last two SwouZy Blues events!
Heading North for a Fabulous Event in Ann Arbor!
Delaan and Joel are excited to have the opportunity to travel to Ann Arbor Michigan, where they will teach, DJ and participate in Michigan Fusion Connection 2025. We'd love for you to join us! This event is run by Rhizome Roots Studios - a creation of Charlie Fuller, who recently has spent time in Cincinnati teaching at SwouZy Blues and Blues Dance Cincinnati. Charlie brings a fun, daring and inclusive energy to everything she does. she'll also be back in Cincinnati at the end of October for two nights of Murder Mysteries and Halloween Dances on Oct 30 & 31.
Collaborating with SwinGallery!
In October, SwinGallery (Cincinnati's LONG running Thursday night Swing Dance event) has offered Joel Domoe the opportunity to teach it's monthly Progressive class. Joel has a long relationship with SwinGallery, regularly attends and DJs there, and really relishes the chance to teach classes at this major pillar of our dance community. He'll be teaching Intermediate Lindy Hop in October AND the class is 5 weeks long AND Joel's co-teacher will be his long time teaching and performing partner, ex-wife and baby-momma, Melanie Myers. Melanie is a wonderful danceer and teacher. She possesses an incredible wealth of experience with Lindy Hop. It's always a great opportunity for students when she has the time to teach.
Mixing It Up With the UC Hepcats!
Also in October, Joel is very excited to work with the University of Cincinnati's Swing Dance Club. Joel will be teaching at their regular Tuesday night sessions for three weeks: October 7, 14, & 21. It's always a blast to soak in the great energy and enthusiasm this group brings. after the devastating pandemic years, the Hepcats have re-emerged with several years of excellent leadership and the 2025-26 school year looks to be particularly strong for them, as President Nia Stefanov leads a very full & dedicated Board into the future! The Hepcats events take place at UC, but college age and near college age participants are also welcome to join in the fun even if they do not attend UC.
That's the news from SupermurgaNati, where the women are strong, the men can also follow, and the children are alive inside all of us!
