CZECH COURSES FOR ADULTS – FALL QUARTER 🇨🇿
Registration is now open! All levels are welcome. This fall, we are offering beginner courses both online and in person, as well as the Czech Language and Culture Club for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in Czech culture and enjoy hearing and using the language in a relaxed setting without a strong emphasis on grammar.

This semester, students will explore the key events that shaped Czech-German relations from the Middle Ages to the present and examine their lasting impact on Central Europe.

• Engage with Fellow Students: Join our coordinated online meetings with Irena Čajková, an Instructional Professor at the University of Chicago and a teacher at the T. G. Masaryk Czech School.

Our next stop took us to the Baroque Buchlovice Chateau and its gardens. And because sightseeing is always better with chocolate, we made sure to stop at Čokoládové království, the “Chocolate Kingdom” right by the chateau gardens, known for its handmade pralines and other chocolate specialties. 🍫🏰

But the sweetest part of the stop had nothing to do with chocolate. Our traveler Amy had the chance to meet up with her relatives from her mother’s side. ♥️

For the first time in the history of our Around the Czech Republic tours, we have grandparents traveling with their grandchildren! ❤️

Maddie and Billy quickly found an additional role on the trip — becoming favorite babysitters for Vincent, the baby son of tour organizer Klára. Here, our bus and stroller crew made a stop at the Peace Memorial at Slavkov (Austerlitz).

Our 8th annual Around the Czech Republic tour took us to Olešnice, where we had a chance to discover one of the beautiful traditions still kept alive in the Czech Republic — modrotisk, traditional indigo blueprinting.

At Danzinger’s workshop, we learned about the centuries-old process of creating patterns with a resist paste and dyeing the fabric in indigo. The Danzinger family has been preserving this craft for generations, and Czech and Slovak blueprinting is now part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. And as you can see, not only women did some serious shopping! 💙

Our journey through the Czech Republic took us to Polička, the birthplace of composer Bohuslav Martinů. 🎶

We saw the tower of St. James Church, where Martinů was born and spent the first years of his life high above the town, and received a warm welcome at the Tyl Theater from its director, Petr Cuper.

Our visit was arranged by Alena Báčová, the theater’s former director, and we are very thankful to both of them for making time for our group and giving us a glimpse behind the scenes.
