Who remembers the Grand Prize Game? You have to be of a certain age, but if you do, you can remember the excitement it created in children. We decided to give it a try at The Curious Crayon and even included some prizes for following directions well. I guess in this photo, Joe was Bozo! 😂🤡

Sometimes we cheat.

Sometimes we manipulate the world just a tiny bit to fit the needs of our kids.

Because sometimes the best option isn’t what the world has to offer.

Sometimes we can just… make it better. Hamilton North Public Library doesn’t have enough children’s books about Transformers.

(No library does. Apparently the literary world has decided Transformers are not important. 🙄)

Library day has become a little heartbreaking for one of our kids.

The kids pick a subject and find two books.

He picks Transformers.

EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK.

And strikes out.

Every. Time.

Even the librarians feel his disappointment.

So we have two choices:

Keep saying, “Sorry, buddy. You’ll have to pick something else.”

Or…

CHEAT.

Magically, Transformer books are going to start appearing on the library shelves.

Because here’s the thing:

Yes, kids need to learn “no.”

Yes, they need to experience disappointment.

Yes, the world will absolutely hand them things they don’t like.

But books?

At the library?!

Come on.

Pick your battles.

And if a child can win?

THROW. THAT. FIGHT.

Sometimes we don’t need to prepare kids for a disappointing world.

Sometimes we get to make the world a little less disappointing.

And sometimes that means putting some Transformers on the shelf. 😂💜
