Knight Nation,
One of the greatest things about being part of the Steele community is the way we come together for one another. This year, we have another special opportunity to do just that.
Steele High School is kicking off a donation drive in support of cystic fibrosis, also known as CF. We are incredibly proud to have two amazing students who live with CF, and we want to surround them and their families with the support of their Knight Nation family.
Cystic fibrosis is a rare genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. While tremendous advances in treatment have improved the lives of people living with CF, it remains a lifelong condition that requires significant daily care and treatment.
A few things you may not know about CF:
• CF is rare. Approximately only 40,000 people in the United States are living with cystic fibrosis.
• CF is a genetic disease caused by changes in a specific gene.
• CF can affect a person’s lungs, pancreas, and other organs.
• People living with CF often spend significant time each day and night managing treatments, medications, and therapies.
• CF is not contagious. You cannot catch cystic fibrosis from someone who has it.
• There is currently no cure for CF, but research and advances in treatment continue to give people living with CF more opportunities to live full, active lives.
Most importantly, our students with CF are not defined by their diagnosis. They are Knights. They are students, friends, teammates, musicians, artists, and young men with big dreams for their futures.
As we begin this donation drive, I hope our community will consider giving, not simply because CF is a worthy cause, but because two of our own are walking the halls with this condition every day.
