Outstanding work this weekend by the Woodland Hills Marching Band and Images Visual Ensemble!

This spring, the Woodland Hills Department of Performing Arts will stage a musical never before seen on the high school stage.

Woodland Hills is one of two schools in the country that will produce a pilot production of "Wonderland," a reworked edition of a 2011 Broadway show that has never been licensed for high schools to produce.

Here's the story on how Woodland Hills earned this special opportunity.

Tomorrow night is a big night for the Woodland Hills High School Marching Band and Images Visual Ensemble, as it's the annual Band Night.

Over 100 5th through 8th grade band members will join the high school marching band on the field for pre-game and then hop into the stands to play with the band during the game.

That means over 200 students will be part of the band Friday night!

Also, make sure you stick around the game, as the Fox Chapel Marching Band will team up with the Woodland Hills band for a combined performance you won't want to miss!

Over 90 students from multiple school districts gathered at Chatham University on Monday, Oct. 9 to undergo leadership training and begin preparations for the fifth annual Woodland Hills Student Summit.

The session at Chatham laid the groundwork for an expanded Student Summit, as 15 school districts will gather at Penn State Greater Allegheny on March 8. Led by host Woodland Hills, the Student Summit is centered on student-led discussions that cover topics hand-picked by the high school students.

This year's theme is "Unity Through the Branches of Growth." Wood is the traditional gift material for a fifth anniversary. That concept, combined with the continued expansion of the summit and the underlying quest to foster individual and community growth, helped generate the theme. Woodland Hills alum C.J. Swanson created an image to reflect the them and incorporated just a few of the schools that will be participating in the summit in March.

To learn more about today's student leadership session at Chatham, check out the full story on the district website:

Woodland Hills High Schools’s Department of Performing Arts 2024 Spring musical is: Wonderland

WHHS’s reputation of outstanding musical theater reaches far beyond our community and deep into the Broadway scene of producers and writers.

We are extremely thrilled and honored to be the first High School in the nation to be afforded this amazing opportunity to produce this show.

We can’t wait to pull back the curtain and present this musical for you.

More to come……

There will be delicious food from around the world, musical performances, as well as remarks from Her Excellency, Ambassador Mmasegkoa Masire-Mwamba of Botswana to the Kingdom of Belgium.

And stick around for fireworks after the event!

It all begins at 4:30 on Thursday, Sept. 21.

Please take a moment to read this important message from Superintendent Dr. Daniel Castagna:

Today we were included in a mass email threat with many other schools. The threat is not specific and does not name Woodland Hills directly. Mr. Valles has made contact with our local Police Departments. At this time, we do not feel the threat is credible, but we are increasing Police patrols and internal security measures.

I wanted to make all staff and families immediately aware of this.

Please feel free to contact any of our buildings if you have any questions or concerns!

Dr. Daniel Castagna

It’s almost unheard of for a high school marching band to nearly double in size over the span of a year without adding grades or some other unique circumstance. But that’s the case with the Woodland Hills Marching Band and Images Visual Ensemble, which saw its numbers skyrocket from 64 members during the 2022 season to 107 this year.
