Students in 6th-8th grades at Richard ES and their parents/guardians were recently informed of two important pieces of legislation enacted by the Louisiana Legislature.
The Louisiana Legislature enacted Act 782 of the 2026 Regular Session, known as the Ivy Daniels Act, to protect children from crimes involving the creation, possession, dissemination, or sale of improper images created by artificial intelligence. Louisiana law is requiring public schools to provide information regarding this legislation.
The Louisiana Legislature has also enacted Act 619 of the 2026 Regular Session, known as the School Threat Accountability and Safety Act, to strengthen school safety and increase accountability for threats directed toward schools, including school property, school-sponsored activities, and firearm-free zones. The Act creates enhanced criminal penalties for terrorizing and menacing school property and establishes requirements for annual dissemination of information to students and parents regarding these offenses and their consequences.
