🚨🚨URGENT ACTION ALERT: Protest Prop 98 Withholding this Thursday‼️

We need your voice at a public demonstration this Thursday, 6/18, from 11am-12noon outside Assemblyman David Alvarez’s office (276 Church Avenue, Suite D, Chula Vista).
While the legislature reached a tentative budget deal yesterday, negotiations with Newsom continue on major issues.

Our window to protect PROP 98 is closing but we aren’t going without a fight! We are urging Assemblyman Alvarez (the Chair of the Ed Finance Commitee) to fully fund Prop 98 and exclude the new idea to fund private preschool programs out of that budget.

A Prop 98 deferral would cost our students over $600 each.

As we approach May 1st, International Workers’ Day, SCGA invites you to join us in a visual demonstration of solidarity and professional advocacy.

Our work as school counselors is the backbone of student success, yet the demands of our profession including the ongoing push for equitable student-to-counselor ratios and equitable access to positions we are qualified for require a unified voice.

How to Participate:

The Action: Wear black clothing on Friday, May 1st along with our labor siblings in SUHSD.

The Purpose: To show our collective strength and support for fair working conditions and the essential role of school counseling.

The Connection: Use this as an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with colleagues and stakeholders about our advocacy goals, including assess to resource assignments and the ASCA recommended 250:1 caseload.

By wearing black, we honor the history of the labor movement and reaffirm our commitment to the rights, well-being, and professional standards of all educators within the Sweetwater Union High School District.

For over a year, President Luansing-Garcia shown up to SUHSD board meetings with one consistent message: inclusion, not exclusivity.

These clips capture moments where she has advocated for counselors to have access to resource assignments—roles that align with counselor training, keeping counselors rooted on our campuses, and to strengthen continuity of care for students.

This has never been about taking roles away from anyone. It’s about recognizing counselor expertise, building district capacity, and ensuring students receive the support they deserve.
