For many of our students, this milestone represents not only the completion of a degree, but also the fulfillment of dreams, sacrifices, and years of hard work.

An inspiring day at the CaliBaja Higher Education Consortium meeting at Universidad Iberoamericana Tijuana alongside leaders committed to strengthening opportunities for binational students.

The CaliBaja region requires a different vision for higher education. Our students move across borders, languages, and cultures every day, and our institutions must evolve to meet that reality. These conversations and collaborations are helping build stronger pathways for students while reshaping education to better support the workforce and economic needs of our region.

The work happening through these partnerships is creating lasting change for the future of CaliBaja.

For the first time, Southwestern College’s Binational and International Programs is bringing new student orientation directly to Tijuana for AB91 students enrolling in Fall 2026. Hosted at the Secretaría de Educación Pública, these sessions are helping remove geographical, language, and access barriers for binational students in our region.

Most of these students are U.S. citizens living in Tijuana who cross the border daily to pursue higher education opportunities at Southwestern College. This work reflects the unique educational and community ties that define the CaliBaja region and demonstrates what student centered higher education can look like in a border community.
