🎓 Welcome to our fifth cohort of AB91 students!

This week, Southwestern College welcomed more than 150 new students from our binational region. With this new cohort, our AB91 community will grow to nearly 400 students by the end of Fall 2026.

And this orientation was special for another reason.

We also welcomed the largest group of parents and family members to attend an AB91 orientation alongside our students.

Because supporting a student also means supporting their family.

When families better understand how the U.S. higher education system works, learn about available resources, and understand how to support their students, that knowledge can benefit siblings, cousins, and future generations.

That is also what access looks like.

Thank you to all the Southwestern College departments that made this orientation possible, and a very special thank you to our Binational and International Programs team for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to continuing to open doors for students across our region.

Today, we proudly honor the achievements of students whose educational journeys transcend borders. This special ceremony recognizes the dedication, resilience, and determination of our graduates and celebrates the strong connections between communities in the United States and Mexico.

For many of our students, this milestone represents not only the completion of a degree, but also the fulfillment of dreams, sacrifices, and years of hard work.

An inspiring day at the CaliBaja Higher Education Consortium meeting at Universidad Iberoamericana Tijuana alongside leaders committed to strengthening opportunities for binational students.

The CaliBaja region requires a different vision for higher education. Our students move across borders, languages, and cultures every day, and our institutions must evolve to meet that reality. These conversations and collaborations are helping build stronger pathways for students while reshaping education to better support the workforce and economic needs of our region.

The work happening through these partnerships is creating lasting change for the future of CaliBaja.

For the first time, Southwestern College’s Binational and International Programs is bringing new student orientation directly to Tijuana for AB91 students enrolling in Fall 2026. Hosted at the Secretaría de Educación Pública, these sessions are helping remove geographical, language, and access barriers for binational students in our region.

Most of these students are U.S. citizens living in Tijuana who cross the border daily to pursue higher education opportunities at Southwestern College. This work reflects the unique educational and community ties that define the CaliBaja region and demonstrates what student centered higher education can look like in a border community.

Special thanks to Angelina Barrera, M.A. for supporting our newest students through Academic ESL guidance and onboarding support.

📢Attention to all Students at SWC📢

If you are someone who crosses the boarder everyday to attend SWC, you may be eligible to apply to CAP❗️

Students under this program are allowed to use the new student lane and cross using the pedestrian lane in under 15 minutes or less🇲🇽🇺🇸
