Dairy Week in FCS Basics & Culinary consisted of Egg Examination, making butter in a jar, Milk & Cheese Tasting, Breakfast cooking labs, & Farm to Table Dairy Timelines! One of my favorite weeks!!!!

Last week was homecoming and what a whirlwind it was! Culinary had two labs last week: Knife Skills & Cooking Methods, so we had quite a busy week! Students learned to dice, julienne, & batonnet during knife skills using onions, bell peppers, and potatoes & then utilized boiling, deep frying, sautéing, & roasting to cook potatoes 4 different ways. Proud of these culinarians👨🏻‍🍳👩🏼‍🍳

Culinary: Chef of the Week miss Sofia who always has an amazing attitude and is quick to help without being asked!

Winners from last week’s plating competition, measuring stations (eyeball v. exact measurements as well as properly measuring), and measuring & directions lab with no bakes!

Can’t forget Culinary! They’re rocking it too!

First, congrats to the Chefs of the week! Ty & Gage both went out of their way this week to serve. Their leadership is appreciated!

Monday: Kitchen equipment scavenger hunt & timeline activity. Things may or may not have gotten a little heated.
Tuesday: Learned about spices & made spice wheels with paper plates.
Wednesday: Used our spice wheel plates for a spices, herbs, and seasonings activity where students investigated the origin, taste, smell, and composition of different spices. Seasoned popcorn to create different flavor profiles!
Thursday: Tasting lab! Learned about taste physiology & perception & what it means to taste like a chef.
Friday: Plating & presentation challenge! After learning plating principles, students had to plate a tw***ie using what they learned! Look at those creations! What a week of learning!!!!

FCS Basics is CRUSHING IT this week! Monday: Learned how to annotate recipes, fill out a mise en place sheet, & prep mise en place. Tuesday: Learned the importance of a good recipe and proper measuring techniques with a “gooey goop” recipe that lacked proper measurements. Wednesday: Learned about the different cooking methods & types of heat transfer, prepped for cooking methods lab. Today: Cooking methods lab day!! Green Beans 6 different ways, 6 different cooking methods.

Yall! 24 students cooking at the SAME TIME TWICE this week! They were amazing AND had some INCREDIBLE green bean creations! I’m so proud! Kudos to the parents…. they wiped the plates clean! That has never happened 🤣

This week’s Chef of the Week goes to Crimson in FCS Basics! Crimson is always quick to help others and does it with a smile. I know she’ll always be doing the right thing and looking out for others. Way to go, Crimson!

This week in all classes was safety & sanitation. It’s an important week and students tested today. To celebrate, we ended class with games and fun because classroom culture is an integral part of learning—especially in Family Consumer Sciences!
