Vernon schools will be open tomorrow.
We are happy to announce that water service has been restored and the line has been fixed. A boil water notice is now in effect. Bottled drinking water will be available for students, and our kitchens also have water available so they can continue their normal duties.

Vernon Schools Early Release at 11 AM Today (Oct 14) Due to Broken Water Line

Good morning, Vernon families.

Around 7 a.m., the City of Vernon notified us that a tree had fallen and broken a water line. This led to no water pressure at our campuses in Vernon.

With no water pressure, we are unable to flush toilets, which creates an unsanitary situation and requires us to dismiss all Vernon students early today. Students will be released after 11 a.m., which is 3.5 hours earlier than normal.

**Transportation details:**
- School buses will begin pickup at 11 a.m., starting with Vernon Middle, Vernon High, and Vernon Elementary.
- Car riders may also begin pickup at 11 a.m., and buses will start loading at that time.

**Important note for parents of elementary students riding the bus:**
We will not drop off elementary-aged children at homes that are unsupervised. If your child cannot be left home alone, please notify Vernon Elementary School before 11:15 a.m. and we will keep them at school until you can pick them up.

This early release and school-sponsored transportation applies to all Vernon students, including those who attend WAVE, WISE, and FPTC.

All students will be served lunch before dismissal.

We are continuing to monitor the situation closely with the city as they complete the repairs. We hope to return to a normal schedule tomorrow and will share updates as we have them.

As we navigate this time in our community, we are grateful to see everyone pull together during the difficult impacts of Hurricane Isaias. We are thankful that there has been no damage to any of our schools. Our generators performed as designed, protecting our food supplies with no losses, and several of our schools opened as shelters for community members while also providing meals to linemen and emergency responders.
We look forward to welcoming back our 10-month employees and teachers on Tuesday, October 13, and our students on Wednesday, October 14, as they return from fall break. We are excited to see you all and come back together.

Washington County School District shelters for Hurricane Isaias will open Friday, October 9, at 8:00 a.m.
These are impact shelters only. They will be opened as needed throughout the storm and closed as appropriate once the storm has passed.

General population: Roulhac Middle School cafeteria, 1535 Brickyard Road, Chipley. Register at the Roulhac front office and bring a government-issued photo ID.

Special needs only: WAVE, 934 Tiger Loop, Chipley. WAVE is not a general population shelter.
Pet shelter: Roulhac Middle School, Building 3 South, along the bus loop. Washington County Animal Shelter is staffing this location. Bring your own pet food and a kennel.
What to bring: your medicines, extra water, and a bag of necessities. Space is limited so we can serve every family. Please bring only what you need.
Anyone 18 and under must have an adult with them.

Weather Update For Washington County Schools

Families and staff,
Out of care for our students, employees, and families, Washington County School District will dismiss at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8. Schools will be closed on Friday, October 9, due to forecasted weather conditions.
A shelter will open at WAVE at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, at 934 Tiger Loop, Chipley, Florida 32428. This early release gives families time to get home, make plans, and shelter in place. Student and staff safety is always our top priority.

Buses will run on paved and milled roads only on Tuesday, Oct. 6, due to potentially hazardous road conditions. If you live on a dirt road, the bus will still meet students at the end of the road.
