Ute Pass Elementary is excited to welcome Janelle Berndt as our new Preschool Paraprofessional!

Janelle is passionate about supporting young children and loves watching them grow through curiosity, creativity, and play. She looks forward to helping our youngest Mustangs feel safe, supported, and confident as they experience the joy of learning during these important early years. 🍎✨

Janelle's connection to Ute Pass Elementary runs deep. Her incoming fifth grader began their educational journey here as a preschooler, and Janelle has been an active member of the Parent Action Committee (PAC) for the past several years. She is excited to continue giving back to the school community in this new role.

Outside of school, Janelle enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time outdoors with her family, as well as snuggling with her four dogs. πŸ•οΈπŸΎ

Ute Pass Elementary is excited to welcome Rick Webb as our new Physical Education Teacher!

A proud Manitou Springs resident, Rick is excited for the opportunity to serve the community he calls home. This school year marks his third year in the classroom after teaching middle school PE for the past two years. Prior to becoming a teacher, he spent three years substitute teaching in Colorado Springs and coached club soccer for more than 15 years in Iowa and Colorado. He also played collegiate soccer and will be coaching cross country and track at Manitou Springs Middle School this year. βš½πŸƒ

Rick is passionate about helping students develop a lifelong love of movement, healthy habits, and the outdoors. An avid trail runner, mountain biker, snowboarder, and outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys bringing his spirit of adventure into every lesson. His accomplishments include competing in the Pikes Peak Ascent & Marathon Double, finishing 3rd in 2024 and 4th in 2025. πŸ”οΈ

We don't believe it either, but we still have some spots open in our 6th grade Mountain Academy program!! Apply online today for a school year your child will NEVER forget!!

Highlights of MAAS:
-Over 25 field trip/experiential learning opportunities each year
-Large focus on environmental learning, project-based learning, and critical thinking
-Overnight backpacking/camping trips (gear provided)
-Differentiated Instruction for ELA/Math
-6th graders consistently perform above state and district expectations on state testing
-Students participate in Trout in the Classroom- raising them from eggs and then releasing them in Fountain Creek in May
-A non-traditional learning environment that combines outdoor learning and being in an elementary school (blocks of instruction rather than switching teachers frequently)
-All 6th grade MAAS students can participate in sports with Manitou Springs Middle School

UPES Families and Community: Pending approval from the Board of Education in the August meeting, we are so excited to announce Mr. Matt Dobbins as our new Dean of Students at Ute Pass Elementary! Mr. Dobbins has a degree in elementary education and a master's degree in educational leadership. Matt is an avid sports fan, loves being outside and spending time with his family, and has two dogs and two cats (along with three sons)! We are thrilled to have him join our team at the best little school in the world! Please join us in giving Mr. Dobbins a big UPES welcome!

Our students did amazing today in the 4th of July parade and performance! A huge thank you to staff- Reid Poole, Kate Kettler, and Jaya Evans for running the camp leading up to this as well as Miles Groth for his partnership and leadership with the educational component of the Kirkpatrick Family Foundation grant. We were also so fortunate to work with the incredible artist Sofia Hernandez Crade on the most wonderful peregrine falcon for the parade!
