Sweet Park Brewfest Set for September 12 in Chinook, Featuring Live Auction of Iconic Playground "Curly Slide" and Antique Spring Animals
CHINOOK, MT — Craft beverage enthusiasts, local families, and history buffs are invited to Sweet Memorial Park on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 4:00 PM, for the annual Sweet Park Brewfest. Hosted by the Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation, this year’s event pairs Montana craft brews, live music and food with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to take home a cherished piece of Chinook history. Live Music will be provided by Stonebroke String Band and there will also be non-alcoholic beverages as well. Jean Kokkeler has so graciously donated a kids giveaway of a Trampoline, you won’t want to miss it!
With major park renovations scheduled to break ground on September 15, 2026, new safety regulations require the retirement of several longstanding playground favorites. To preserve their legacy and support future improvements, the City of Chinook has partnered with the Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation to host a live benefit auction during the Brewfest.
Shortly after 6:00 PM, attendees will have the chance to bid live on:
• The Historic "Curly Slide": An iconic centerpiece of Sweet Memorial Park for generations, ready to find a new home in a backyard, farm, or ranch (it cannot be installed in a Public area due to new regulations)
• The Antique Spring Animals: Classic playground riding spring animals that have brought joy to generations of Chinook youth.
Kevin Elias will serve as the live auctioneer, with Jessica Aberg serving as auction clerk.
• In-Person Bidding Only: All bidding will take place live on-site. Supporters unable to attend in person are encouraged to designate a local proxy to bid on their behalf.
• Payment & Removal: Winning bidders must pay via check to the Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation immediately following the auction and execute a Bill of Sale that evening.
• Removal Assistance: Moxley Construction in Chinook has generously agreed to remove the Curly Slide for the winning bidder for just $1 (payable to Moxley Construction, Inc.), with removal coordinated alongside the City Public Works Director before 8:00 PM on Monday, September 14, 2026.
Alongside the auction, Brewfest attendees can enjoy:
• Regional Craft Beverages - an expansive selection of craft beers and ciders from across Montana.
• A Silent Auction will be held where all proceeds go towards the Park rehabilitation. Donations can be made by contacting Tammy at 406-399-1428.
• Live entertainment throughout the evening from Stonebroke String Band and on-site food.
Drink Tickets are $35 per person, which includes a commemorative tasting mug and unlimited pours (21+ only; valid ID required). Advance tickets and registration are available online at www.chinookfriends.org.
All proceeds from this event directly benefit the continued revitalization and safety upgrades of the Ensign Sweet Memorial Park and Chinook City Pool complex.
