At our school, we are committed to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of every student. As part of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for Behavior, we provide proactive instruction and support that helps students develop the skills needed to thrive both in school and in life.
One of the foundational supports available to all students is Second Step, an evidence-based social-emotional learning curriculum used throughout Chino Valley Unified School District for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. Second Step is designed to help students build important life skills, including:
Responsible decision-making
Problem-solving with peers
Managing strong emotions
Goal setting
Building positive relationships
Developing empathy and self-awareness
Research shows that social-emotional skills contribute to both academic achievement and positive social interactions. Through teacher-led lessons delivered using a digital platform, students engage in age-appropriate activities and discussions that support their overall well-being and success.
We value our partnership with families and want to ensure transparency regarding instructional materials. Parents and guardians are invited to preview the Second Step curriculum with our counselor, Mrs. Pickens, prior to classroom instruction.

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Please check in at the front office upon arrival.
We encourage families who would like to learn more about the curriculum to attend one of these preview sessions. Working together, we can help our students develop the social-emotional skills necessary to become confident, responsible, and successful learners.
