Why do you train?

Physics tells us why your “I’ll just shoot ’em” plan or "I'll just stab 'em" strategy may not work in real life.

Agree or disagree?

Silat is concepts-based, not techniques-based.

And like any effective concepts-based combat art, a simple defensive principle like fanning (sometimes called parry-check) can be modified into a devastating offensive move — especially when you introduce a blade.

What can a cartoon kid and his imaginary tiger teach us? A lot. But in this instance...

Too many people obsess over the blade steel, chest rig, or the caliber before they even know how to stop a suckerpunch, terminate a takedown, or evade an edged weapon attack.

Hardware is useless if the software hasn't been upgraded.

Owning a tool is one thing. Being prepared to use it is another.

Martial arts and fi****ms? They’ve been connected for centuries across continents.

Japan. China. Germany.

These aren’t myths or modern reinterpretations. They’re documented examples of martial artists and military traditions adapting to flamethrowers, hand cannons, and eventually fi****ms as technology advanced.

The weapons changed.
The martial artist adapted.

And that raises an interesting question: Are we still adapting fast enough to the threats of our time?

What do you think?

You can own a gun and still be completely unprepared.

Because a fi***rm is just a tool. It doesn't magically bestow you with skills, speed, awareness, and judgement.

😱 What happens if someone surprises you at close range?

⌛️ When you don't have time to draw?

❌ Or your pistol malfunctions?

That’s where training matters.

Don’t practice for the perfect scenario. Train for the REAL WORLD.

Want to take your personal-defense training further?

Join us October 17–18 for the Modern Self-Protection Seminar, where you'll learn how to handle an armed threat — from both sides of the muzzle.

Everyone talks about flight or fight. But instructors often forget about the most deadly one — freezing.

The goal of training isn't to make you fearless. It's to make your body take effective action before your mind can feel fear.

Train the response before you need it.
