Community Forest at China School -China School’s Forest, China, Maine The trails are open to the public from dawn to dusk.

Located behind the China Primary School, the China Community Forest is an "outdoor classroom" with trails and learning stations to teach about the Maine forest in a real-life, hands-on setting.

Saturday August 2, 2026 was a very busy day at the China Community Forest. Central Church had a number of volunteers sign up to help in the forest. It was a warm day but the accomplishments were great. The orange and pink trails are a little better to navigate thanks to the volunteers from Central Church and Bryan Moore of Pro Tree Service inc who donated the wood chips.

"There’s a hidden Hobbit community that’s quietly blossomed in the China Community Forest over the past year. As you wander along the winding trails, keep your eyes open for tiny hobbit-sized houses, some larger homes are nestled in trees, there’s even a miniature library. They appear softly, almost overnight, dotting the forest with magic.
The Hobbits adore seeing you enjoy the forest, but you’ll likely never glimpse them. They come alive in the hush of night, when the forest sleeps, except on rare special occasions. If you stumble upon a Hobbit home, you’re welcome to take a photo—but please leave it just as you found it. And if you’re inspired, you can create your own Hobbit or Fairy House in the Fairy House Village—just gather natural treasures from the forest floor and let your imagination build."
