🏠❤️ Learning What It Means to Be a Cardinal! ❤️🏠

This year, we’re using our individual House Meetings to help students learn more about all eight of our CGES Houses—not just their own! Each house represents an important character trait, and together, those traits represent what it means to be a Cardinal. 🐦

During our September meetings, students learned about two of our houses and worked together on a collaborative project to represent what they learned. We also celebrated our top House Point earners for the month! 🎉

We love seeing our Cardinals learn, create, celebrate one another, and discover how ALL eight houses come together to make one amazing Cardinal family! 8 HOUSES, 1 HEART BEAT 💙💚🩵🧡💛💜❤️🖤

🦋 All-A-Flutter Butterfly Farm Field Trip 🦋

Our 2nd graders had an unforgettable day at All-A-Flutter Butterfly Farm! Students learned about the butterfly life cycle and actively participated in demonstrating each stage—from egg to caterpillar, chrysalis, and finally, butterfly. They also explored a butterfly-inspired playground and discovered how nature can inspire learning and play.

The highlight of the trip was visiting the greenhouse, where students used sugar sticks to gently attract and pick up butterflies. They were amazed as butterflies landed on their hands, arms, and even on their friends! Students also observed beautiful butterflies resting on colorful flowers throughout the greenhouse.

It was a day filled with hands-on learning, excitement, curiosity, and plenty of butterfly magic! 🦋🌸

❤️🖤 Happy National Instructional Coach Day to our amazing Ms. St. Clair! ❤️🖤

Ms. St. Clair does SO much for CGES! From supporting our teachers and students, helping with committees, leading Monday PDs, and always being there when someone needs a helping hand—she truly wears many hats! She has built such special relationships with our students, and they absolutely LOVE her. She brings so much fun, positivity, and encouragement wherever she goes.

And of course, we have to give a little 🧡🦦 Noivando love! We are so lucky to have Ms. St. Clair as part of our Cardinal family. Thank you for ALL you do! ❤️🖤

Our 5th graders wrapped up Unit 1 of Benchmark, “Cultivating Resources,” by learning about the World’s Only Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota! 🌽

After exploring the history and significance of the Corn Palace, students put their creativity to work by designing and creating their very own corn mosaics inspired by this unique landmark. It was a fun way to connect what we learned through reading with hands-on creativity!

🌎🔬 Fifth Grade Explores Ecosystems at Horizons Unlimited 🐾🌱

Our fifth graders had an amazing day at Horizons exploring the world of ecosystems! 🌎✨

Students kicked off the trip in the new planetarium, where they explored four different ecosystems and discovered how plants and animals interact within each one. They also learned about threats to these ecosystems, including overfishing, pollution, coral bleaching, and habitat destruction. 🐠🪸

Then, students put their learning into action through hands-on activities focused on protecting ecosystems and understanding how our choices can impact the environment. 🌱💧

Students also explored heredity, inherited and acquired traits, instincts, and learned behaviors before wrapping up the day with an exciting robotics activity! 🤖 They modeled how energy moves through a food chain—from consumers to predators and eventually to decomposers.

It was a fun-filled day of science, exploration, and hands-on learning! We are so proud of our fifth grade scientists! 💚🌎

🐬🩵 Creating with Ubunifu! 🩵🐬
September was all about celebrating the House of Ubunifu! 🩵

The Teal House, led by our amazing Alphas Lilah & Lauryn, represents the “C” for Creativity in CGES!
🌍 The name Ubunifu comes from Swahili and means creativity — a perfect fit for our clever, curious Dolphins! 🐬

Ubunifu reminds us that creativity is about more than art. It’s about thinking differently, trying new things, solving problems, and using our imagination to make a difference. 💡✨

We are so proud of our creative Dolphins! 🐬🩵

Our 4th graders had a BLAST when Diamond Del brought their mobile gem-mining experience right to our school! They got to mine for their very own gems while learning about rocks, minerals, classification, and identification. 🪨🔎

There were lots of smiles, lots of discoveries, and plenty of excitement every time a new gem was uncovered! 😂💎

Science + hands-on learning + a little treasure hunting = a pretty great day in 4th grade! ❤️
