Congratulations to Mount Aviat Academy for maintaining a Maryland EXCELS Quality Rating 5, and being awarded Pre-K Expansion Grant funds!

Sister John Elizabeth Callaghan, principal of the academy, says this about the achievement, "We often think back to those early days of working our way through the Maryland EXCELS process — a time when we had no idea how many doors it would eventually open for our school. What we do remember clearly is the steady guidance and support from our Quality Assurance Specialist as we navigated what initially felt like a very complicated system.

The Pre‑K Expansion Grant has truly been transformational for our community. Through this opportunity, we have welcomed so many additional young learners. We have expanded our facilities to include three new classrooms and a Playscape. While meeting the grant requirements has certainly required significant effort, each year brings new growth as we respond to the needs of today’s children."

Special thanks to this amazing group of volunteers from Barclay who came out today to our PreK playscape to stain and paint the new space all in remembrance of their coworker and friend, Lauri Callaghan Witte, who passed away last year. Lauri's sister, Sr. John Elizabeth, is the principal of Mount Aviat and Lauri and the entire Callaghan family are great supporters of the school.
