Here’s the latest pictures from this year’s gourd field. They have done what they are going to do and are dying back. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for the gourds to dry and getting them harvested. It won’t be my usual harvest but that’s ok. I seriously considered not planting this year as I didn’t need much.

Things have taken a turn for the worst in the gourd field the past couple of weeks. First I noticed some powdery mildew starting. I was able to get that under control and then I realized I had a widespread outbreak of aphids that took a couple trips of spraying to control. In the meantime the aphids were weakening the plants and spreading disease. Today I noticed some mealy bugs. I’ve never seen mealy bugs on gourds or any other agricultural crop in all my years of farming. As bad as the vines look, I haven’t given up. These two photos were taken last Tuesday and today.

Thank you to all who served and sacrificed.

🇺🇸❤️Memorial Day ❤️🇺🇸

Today we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom. Their sacrifice is the reason we get to enjoy moments with family, friends, and the freedoms we often take for granted.
May we never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. ❤️🤍💙

I was surprised to find this big bottle gourd yesterday while turning vines. It has to be a volunteer that got left when we hoed them.
The second picture is a more accurate representation of the bigger of what’s set at this point.

This year’s crop is doing well. The vines pretty much have the ground covered and are setting baby gourds.
